Not because he’s been naughty but because I cannot think of a single thing he wants.
He’s a little unusual and not completely NT. He is dyspraxic so anything like Lego is out. He has no interest, it’s all too hard. He cannot follow the instructions at all. He has a big box of bricks he just builds with and that is fine. He doesn’t want any sets or anything.
Same with craft stuff. He can’t do it so it’s pointless getting it.
He has hundreds of books which he’s never read despite somehow being a very good reader. He wouldn’t see books as an exciting or interesting gift.
He’s not interested in clothes.
He has a PlayStation 4 which he’s looked at twice since he had it. I think he finds the controls difficult to operate.

He has an iPad which he plays with loads. He is massively into football but he has about ten footballs, including some ‘special’ ones from different teams and he has a football kit in his favourite team (had it for his birthday).
He does play with Playmobil but he has a LOT of it and he doesn’t bother with the castle / pyramid etc. He just takes the guys out and will build things with magnatiles but we don’t need any more of those either.

He had a good sized bike last year and he isn’t interested in scooting or skateboarding (can’t do it). We have a trampoline and football nets outside.

I’m drawing an absolute blank. It wouldn’t be so bad but my daughter will be 3 around Christmas and I could buy endlessly for her! She plays with things already in a way ds never has and she also likes dressing up etc which ds has never been interested in.

Any ideas? I don’t want to waste the money but equally I don’t want to just say to ds here’s some money for your account, whilst dd has several gifts to open. Gifts she will be thrilled with. Ds doesn’t need the money for his account particularly either, having been left a sizeable chunk from my FiL.
I want to get him something he will be pleased with.

A watch
An iPod loaded with music and audiobooks (my 6yo loves his)
Bedsheets in his favourite team strip
Lava lamp

DaisyChops · 05/08/2018 08:58

That t-shirt looks fab!

I think if he likes football you could get loads just from the club shop, there are usually 3 football kits so you could get another kit, even the goalie kit as that would be long sleeved. Football calendar, annual, pj's, hat and scarf, duvet cover, curtains. If you want to spend more you could get a signed photo or something, stadium tour, experience.

Also what about match attack cards, I have spent a fortune on those over the years.

iTunes vouchers...I bet there is loads you could get when it comes to it.

Some more playmobil figures if that's what he plays with, I know he doesn't need them but it's Christmas isn't it, do our kids 'need' anything we buy for them really?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/08/2018 09:50

And yet again , I'm Xmas Hmm at the people who come onto a Christmas thread to complain that someone is mentioning Christmas outside of December .

OP if you want specific events like Football days you'll most likely have to book them now , don't wait till November.

My DS is 18 and never wants 'things' we give him money , he saves it. Usually money in a gift box , Games voucher receipt in a gift box and some smellies , clothes and sweets.

My DS (11) is dyspraxic and for years didn't know what to get him. Like your son, LEGO was too hard, struggled to read, got frustrated at games etc. We did lots of experience days for him, bought zoo passes and wrapped them up with a soft toy tiger etc. It's getting easier as he's getting older but still very young in his ways.

Trialsmum · 05/08/2018 11:14

Oh yes! Fit bit style watches are all the rage in ds’s school!

mineisarossini · 05/08/2018 11:15

It is AUGUST?!!! WTH!! 😳

BettySpagBol · 05/08/2018 11:30

A game for the iPad. My daughter was desperate for a &5.99 game. The time is we don't ever pay for any games but I let her have one for Christmas

NoWordForFluffy · 06/08/2018 06:58

@mineisarossini, if you'd bothered to RTFT, you'd see that you're in the Christmas section of Mumsnet, where we talk about Christmas (as well as other stuff!) all year round. If you don't want to discuss Christmas, don't venture in here!

PalePinkSwan · 06/08/2018 07:54

Treat foods?

Voucher for a “your choice!” day (ie the 3 year old is looked after by somewhere else, DS can choose activities/meals out to have with you and DH where he gets all the attention).

nononsene · 08/08/2018 13:55

My kids love the candy floss maker they got last year. Can buy coloured sugar to go with it.

SockEatingMonster · 08/08/2018 15:45

My 9 yo DS sounds a little like yours. Things he has loved best and continued to use over the past couple of years:

  • super soft ‘teddy bear’ blankets
  • triops
  • massage chair
  • footbath
  • Lynx and body shop stuff (going to try him on Lush this year)
  • coloured hairspray
  • aromatherapy sprays (he particularly loves the avon sleep one)
  • traditional board games like the Game of Life etc
  • single player games like Rush Hour
  • kinetic toys like his Newton’s Cradle
  • disco lights and lava lamp
  • cuddly toys from his favourite video games
  • ‘merch’ from his favourite youtubers

Hope some of these help. Depending on how badly he struggles with his dyspraxia he may also enjoy a bungee bouncer and games like limbo hop.

NanFlanders · 08/08/2018 15:51

Is he into Harry Potter? The Harry Potter studios tour is pretty magical. If he likes the iPad, a Programming for Kids course?

Pressuredrip · 09/08/2018 16:49

Pressuredrip · 09/08/2018 16:50

What about one of those doorway gyms, you can attach swings to etc, would help his dyspraxia.

sparklepops123 · 09/08/2018 16:52

Keyboard ?

Oh2beatsea · 09/08/2018 17:04

One year I bought my daughter a really nice diary / journal and I filled it with experiences that I knew she would like. Some were bigger / more expensive and others quite small.
Eg, cinema voucher x2, theatre tickets x2 for a show, £5 Costa voucher, milkshake voucher x2, LUSH gift voucher & horse riding lessons. Some of the things were so she could take a friend out too.

Alanamackree · 09/08/2018 17:20

Oh2beatsea I’m definitely stealing that idea!

FruitOnAPlatter · 09/08/2018 17:48

I have the same problem (even down to the dyspraxia). DS1 freely admits that he doesn't know what he wants because he has everything.

Things that have gone down well:

Books that relate to his current favourite cartoon (glorified annuals/fan stuff)

Underwater camera - not used much, but enjoys it when he does.

Decent headphones - with noise cancellation for when he just wants to block out the world!

DS1 did karate and swimming - he wasn't particularly good at either, but it helps him to strengthen/control his body and as long as you have a good bunch that understands he finds it hard, it's fun too.

FruitOnAPlatter · 09/08/2018 17:49

What about one of those doorway gyms, you can attach swings to etc, would help his dyspraxia.

If it's like my son, it wouldn't - he's terrified on anything like that because of his poor balance.

Although, if you have suitable space, we got one of those moving platforms - the a3 sized bit of wood with castors on the bottom from Lidl once, and he 'swam' around the flat - it really strengthened his arms/hands.

bandthenjust · 09/08/2018 18:03

I was struggling with ideas f or my kids. We're on a budget this year, and was worried about not being able to buy them as much cheapplasticcrap as I did last year. Asked my kids want they want, and they want book s and slippers Hmm worried for nothing. op, have you looked at 'non-toy gifts'? That's the route I'm taking this year.

IOwn20PurpleKnickers · 09/08/2018 23:15

What does he do on his ipad?

Zoo keeper for a day
Kapla
Binoculars / Telescope
Frisbee
Compass
Camera
Cheaper version of a fitbit
New duvet cover
3D removable sticker for bedroom - like these

ShabbyNat · 10/08/2018 20:30

What about tickets to see Horrible Histories at the theatre somewhere?? We`ve been 2/3 times & are great funGrinGrin

AJPTaylor · 10/08/2018 20:34

Amazon echo. My dd 10 adores hers. Listens to books, asks it a million questions, plays music.

RainbowInACloud · 10/08/2018 22:24

Football boots? My son wants the predator ones.
Anything footie related? Goalie gloves, new training top, match annual, tickets to see a game?
Roller blades?
Nikko remote control car?
Electronics kit?
Dart board? Mini archery? Mini table tennis or fooz ball?
