To go away for New Year?

So, for the last few years, DH and I have done the same thing at New Year, met up with friends for a house party. Now DS is here, it's not as conducive to take him with us so I'm thinking of declining this year's invite. I started thinking it might be nice to go away instead. I was thinking a cottage or lodge, maybe with a hot tub. The only problems seem to be a) obviously it's expensive that time of year and b) what do we do when everything is shut for a couple of days afterwards?

Has anyone gone away for New Year and made it work? DS will be 20 months.

We went to the Canary islands last year, it was lovely. We went all inclusive so we didn't need to worry about shops being closed etc and it was really relaxing and nice to get some heat in the winter!
We ended up with quite a good deal & didn't pay a lot more than we would have for a hot tub lodge break in the UK Smile

We're off to a cottage on a working farm in the Cotswolds over New Year. Like you, now we have our son, NYE isn't about partying with friends, and we may actually be in bed before midnight this year haha! We have a dog too, so will spend our time walking, visiting National Trust properties and local villages. There's a hot tub too but all being well I'll be approx 8 mths pregnant, so DH will be in there on his own!!

Last year we went to Dublin for New Year and there was so much going on! There was a food village at the castle for three days with music performances and family entertainment dublinatchristmas.ie/whats-on-events/new-years-eve-festival-nyf-food-village Elsewhere in the city there were several sports events to watch or take part in as part of their New Year's Resolution Week. There were also storytelling workshops, beer tasting events, poetry recitals and an art trail.

Do it! I’ve also been to the Canaries over New Year and it was fab. I didn’t go all inclusive, but it was a five star hotel, with a spa and included daily champagne breakfast... shops still open and the hotel did a black tie gala with fireworks. Champagne all night, oysters, steak, lobster 😋. It was £1,000 for four days each and I would t hesitate to do it again if I had the money. Came back so relaxed!
