Hi,
I've got a 2 and a 4 year old and I was wondering what bikes would be best for each age. they currently share a balance bike but not sure if that the best option. And what age is best to get them a proper bike don't want to waste money buying one too early. Confused

thank you

We got our 4yo a bike for his birthday, and it took a while before he could manage the pedals/braking, despite having been an ace on his balance bike. I wouldn’t buy for any earlier than 4yo. Also, don’t be tempted to buy a larger size bike for them to “grow in to” - a bigger bike is heavier and more difficult to get the hang of.

Hi
Was this the kinda thing you've got and did you add stabilizers or just let them get the hang of it?

Yes it was similar. We tried without the stabilisers because of how well he controlled the balance bike, but having to balance/pedal/brake was too difficult to begin with. So the stabilisers have been on for nearly a year. We will be taking them off once the grass dries out so he can practice on a field.

brill! thank you, sounds like stabilizers are a must to begin with. Don't want to scare them off riding the new bike! Smile

Keep the balance bike for the 2 year old and get a 16” bike for the 4 year old, unless they’re really small. Specialised are a good make so the one you linked to is good but I wouldn’t I think a 12” would be too small.
