Sorry not sure where else to post this?
Do is 50 in January. Want to buy home 50 presents (some for a £1 each though) and would like to buy him a special watch.
Budget about £400 but hoping I can get something worth much more in January sales? Any suggestions? And let me know if somewhere better to post this!

Is he into tech? DP isn’t a watch wearer but since I got his Apple Watch and AirPods he only takes it off to charge it!

Chaosofcalm · 30/12/2017 18:02

I would buy it closer to the time so he could exchange it if it was not to his taste.

More like a timeless piece / classic rather than a gadget version that will date?

Ah ok, I’m useless then, no idea what’s a good watch.

It depends on what sort of thing he's after but I think you'll need at least £600-£800 to get a very good name. (Tag/longines/Raymond Weil etc)

Any chance you can up the budget at all? I have seen this gold Raymond Weil watch which is very classic in goldsmiths @ £595 Or the Tag in Ernest jones at £630.

It's worth asking for a discount if you buy in the shops. I've had very generous discounts before just by asking particularity independent jewellers.

Watch hut have a good sale on at the moment:
£250-400 price range

Breitling, but not on that budget, sadly!

Have a look at Christopher Ward watches. They sometimes have ‘seconds’. I got one for my husband, half the original price and not a mark or blemish on it. Came in a box with all their standard guarantees

I bought my husband a Christopher Ward watch a few years ago - a British designed and Swiss made company. They have some very reasonably priced watches and they are lovely to look at

Post this on the style and beauty board as you'll get lots of recommendations there. It's very active over the festive season with lots of bargain hunters about.

Tissot? www.goldsmiths.co.uk/Tissot-V8-Mens-Watch/p/17360884/
Pretty good brand/reputation and you can get some decent ones around £400. My DH has an omega and a tissot and the tissot gets more use tbh.

BonnieF · 31/12/2017 00:27

Christopher Ward have an excellent reputation, they are not on the high street so go to their website. Seiko make very good watches, as do Tissot.

I wouldn't recommend 'fashion watch' brands, e.g. Boss, Armani, Kors. They tend to be poor value, as you're paying for the brand, not the watch.
