What are your top tips for cooking a turkey? Does anyone use butter muslin and bacon?
Do you turn it halfway?
Any tried and tested recipes would be great!

20 mins per LB, and baste every now and then. No butter no bacon. Last 30 mins i remove foil.

Put it breast side down until last 40 mins

Use a thermometer and don’t let it over cook.

Rest it for 1.5 - 2 hrs afterwards. Makes it moist and lovely and is still hot if you cover with foil and a bath towel.

Teddy - I love the sound of that! Please come back & expand on your method!
Do you baste/cover in bacon/cook on breast side?

Super easy! Season inside and out, butter on skin if you fancy, streaky bacon if you want. Cover with foil, into very hot preheated oven and turn down temp to 180. Remove foil after about an hour and a half or so.

Instead of minutes per pound or whatever, get a decent digit thermometer, one that sticks in the thigh and cook until the temp hits 68 degrees in the thickest part. Take out of the oven, the turkey will continue to cook whilst out of the oven, so will hit the magic 74 degrees, but will not over cook! Rest wrapped in foil and a big bath towel over to trap the heat for an hour and half to 2 hours. Now the oven can be whacked up for all the trimmings. Easy no stress Christmas dinner, and I’ve never had a dry turkey this way.

I’ve never had a dry bird either. Using old fashioned method of 20 mins per pound.... as my mam did when meat thermometers werent used😉
