Is this a bit naff for Christmas Eve?

I’m currently suffering with full on flu, temperature, aches, pains, extreme exhaustion etc. Been like this a few days now and can’t see any improvement.

For Christmas it’s just me and DDs - 10 and 20. I’m thinking of just preparing a buffet table on Christmas Eve, mainly as DDs can do it if I’m still as poorly as I am now. I would just leave it out and snack as and when. DD1 has additional needs so wouldn’t manage to cook a meal, but with the help of DD2 they could put stuff out.

Or is this a complete cop out? I have absolutely no appetite but obviously DDs need to eat!

Sounds good to me.

We always have a buffet on Christmas Eve! It’s a lovely tradition. There’s enough sitting round the table over Christmas. It’s nice to have a casual one.

BikeRunSki · 21/12/2017 19:51

I love a buffet.

StarDustMonkey · 21/12/2017 19:53

Another one her who always has a buffet on Christmas Eve! Love it :)

RestingGrinchFace · 21/12/2017 19:53

I don't see the problem-this is what my family does except it lasts all week, comes straight from the fridge more often than not and isn't called a buffet (it's referred to as the seasonal gluttony).

Wolfiefan · 21/12/2017 19:54

I'm doing party food only. Kids are too excited to eat much and I will be too knackered to cook much.
Get well soon OP.

PurplePotatoes · 21/12/2017 19:55

I think it's fine, we always have a buffet tea on Christmas eve.. kids love it

iklboo · 21/12/2017 19:55

We always have a buffet on Christmas Eve too, we can pick and snack while watching our Christmas film.

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 21/12/2017 19:55

Excellent, I don’t feel so guilty now Smile

Sounds great! We've asked the children to choose the meal for Christmas Eve and Boxing day - spag bol and curry it is Grin

Hope you feel better soon.

Ummmmgogo · 21/12/2017 20:28

a buffet sounds like a bit much to me. maybe a nice bowl of cornflakes? dd2 could 'cook' that with no help xx

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 21/12/2017 21:17

Ummmm when I say they can do the buffet, it will literally be unpacking the shop bought quiche, cutting squares of cheese, chopping hot dogs etc. Nothing fancy here Xmas BlushXmas Grin

And thanks to all for the get well wishes, it’s been bloody hard this week getting the pair of them to where they need to be when i can barely stand. Family are 300 miles away so it’s all on me.

You poor thing, get well soon.

Buffet sounds lovely. Your 20yr old DD should be able to step out and do whatever needs doing,

Katescurios · 21/12/2017 21:48

Sounds great, we've all got colds so plan to do as little as possible over the next few days to recover before Xmas day. Our Xmas eve dinner will be nachos on the sofa, watching despicable me 3 in PJs, we have popcorn for pudding.

NotAChristmasCakePop · 24/12/2017 08:03

Hope you are feeling better Hastings Enjoy the buffet!

AuntLydia · 24/12/2017 08:06

I'm not doing any special food today. Tried various special meals in the past and the kids aren't remotely interested. I asked them what they wanted to eat today and they voted for frozen pizza. So that's what we're having!

Paddingtonthebear · 24/12/2017 08:11

Sounds fine to me. A 20yr old should be more than capable of sorting this all out if you are not well

Cantchooseaname · 24/12/2017 08:15

Sounds perfect!!
With no idea what your dd’s additional needs are, maybe the chance to step up will feel good to her? (Even if it is opening boxes!!)
Save your energy and enthusiasm for the big day!

Aragog · 24/12/2017 08:25

Sounds good.

Paddington - I think it is the 20yo who has additional needed and so it will be the 10to leading the way.

ermagerdsnur · 24/12/2017 08:30

I think it sounds like a fabulous idea, they will love it and it might end up becoming your family Christmas Eve tradition Smile

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 24/12/2017 08:40

Thanks all Smile

I’m feeling a bit better but still no energy or appetite. DDs are really looking forward to organising the food today though so I’m letting them get on with it.

And yes, DD2 (10) is leading the way and loving every second Xmas Grin

Ah ok sorry I misread!

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 24/12/2017 08:42

(Posted too soon)

DD1 struggles to even open boxes, can’t chop etc but is happy plating up Xmas Smile

Don't do that, very unreasonable! Save the buffet for tomorrow. Have toast and cereal all day today.
