I've just been wrapping. I hate it, but I'm doing it before DH gets back from his travels because if he does it (beautifully - every corner perfectly creased) it'll be Easter before we open our presents and I need him to be doing other stuff. My efforts look like the work of a one-armed toddler and I bloody hate bastard sellotape.
Anyone else struggling?

In January, pick up some Christmas fabric on sale, and sew it into simple bags you can tie with a ribbon. I made assorted sizes years ago and wrapping has never been so easy!!

JaneEyre70 · 22/12/2017 11:44

I thought I was being clever this year, wrapping and buying everything early. I went to get it all out of DHs wardrobe today and put under the tree, and the cheap paper I got from B & M is clearly intolerant of sellotape and it's all come unwrapped again. Ho fucking ho.

ToothTrauma · 22/12/2017 11:49

I love wrapping. Every year I have a ‘theme’ and I do bows and ribbons and the whole shebang.

But there are always some gifts which defeat me. Both DM and DMIL have solar reindeer for the garden this year (sounds hideous but they will love them) and I’ve just vaguely thrown some paper around and applied sellotape liberally anywhere there’s a gap. They look like they’ve been done with my eyes closed.

Whenever the person gets to that gift they always go, ‘Did (DH name) do this one?’ Grin

I've not started yet. I hate wrapping. I hate the waste of paper, bows and sellotape just to hide gifts that are rampant consumerism. I sound like the grinch don't I? I love Christmas, I love that for many people work is quieter, I lovethe time off, I love spending time with my family. I hate the expense, the pressure, the STUFF. I keep asking for donations to charity as my gift "oh we can't do that - we have to get you SOMETHING" No you really don't.
I'll be setting up my ironing board tonight to wrap. (Good height for it) I have my sellotape dispenser ready and a sharp knife (I don't use scissors) I fold and slice. (That's the best bit - when the knife glides!)
I do appreciate beautifully wrapped gifts - don't expect them from me though!

I have found my people Grin

Does anyone else have a problem with stray hairs suddenly appearing right as they stick a bit of tape down? Honestly can't remember the last time I wrapped a bunch of gifts and didn't have at least one end up with a hair attached...

Glittermakeseverythingbetter · 22/12/2017 17:36

Ooh Yes, I have the stray hairs problem. They usually appear on the present from Santa Hmm

I spent a lot of today wrapping presents to be collected tomorrow and those for guests arriving tomorrow.I hate it but it's my job. It was fun when DD lived at home as she helped but now she's in her own home it's nowhere near fun. Have a horrible feeling that I'll have to wrap the pile of boxes that DH has ordered in the last week.It will beat the year I finished wrapping at 2.30 and DAD was up at 4

goose1964 · 22/12/2017 22:11

Afore mentioned DD

SciFiFan2015 · 22/12/2017 22:31

I see my first post on this thread was today. I actually thought it was yesterday. I'm almost done!! Woohoo. Only have DH's stuff to wrap. What. A. Relief. It wasn't that bad actually and using the ironing board was genius. I wrapped DH labelled.

Hassled · 23/12/2018 21:28

How are the crap wrappers coping this year?

My efforts this afternoon involved copious swearing and tbh I think my cats could probably have done a better job if someone with a clue had given them some training.

I'm with poster KrisCringleWinterWonderland. I made cloth bags about 20 years ago for my family and never looked back. I made them by hand, too.

They were so popular the whole family has a set now and after the present opening, there is a blizzard of Christmas fabric as the bags go back to their owner.

I only wrap a few presents each year, these days.

Oysterbabe · 24/12/2018 12:21

I'm fine at it IMO but DH drives me mad with his, such a perfectionist. He was doing some yesterday and toddler creased the paper and he wouldn't use it. It's literally going to be ripped off and binned, who actually gives a fuck if it had a crease?

goose1964 · 24/12/2018 14:16

I am rubbish to but some of them look Ok and it's because they're wrapped in decent paper. My dad bought some reversible paper , one side was robins and the other side was check so it was easy to cut straight and as it was quite thick it holds its creases better. Now I'm back to the normal cheap paper it's all gone downhill
