Usually we have an unwritten agreement that my good friend, her DP, my DH and I don't buy each other presents for Christmas or birthdays.

Sometimes when we visit we buy flowers or chocolates but no formal arrangement or expectation.

A few weeks ago her DP's Mum died suddenly, obviously, as a friend I've been supportive and this year they've decided they are buying us presents and they've only just told us!

So a well thought out, considered gift is out. For example, she loves unique style dangly earrings in an aquamarine or similar colour. We live rurally and I'm still at work so there's no time to go into a large shopping area and choose something beautiful, I'll save that idea for her birthday.

We're feeding them a few times over the holidays so hopefully when we see them we can give them a boost.

Her DP is easy to buy for, that's all ok. Amazon has been my friend here.

I've decided to make her up a present of small things I know she will like. I've got a scented candle, funny notepad, some fairy lights, her favourite handcream. I'll get her chocolates, nice booze, a lovely bubble bath. What else could I get that isn't too expensive but adds a bit of luxury?

They've had the worst time lately, they are dreading Christmas and I just want to see if I can make them smile, even just for a short time.

budget?

I'd go for stuff that is expensive versions of stuff you can get cheaper. So, eg mini truffle oil or cashmere socks.

As I've already bought a few things my budget now is around £50/£60.

Scarf, nail varnish, make up bag?

Some nice tea or coffee and biscuits, lip balm

I'd arrange all the items in a gift basket/box and see if you need to fill gaps anywhere. Sometimes you buy more than you need and have problems fitting it in.

A dvd/cd?

The little book of hygge £5 on amazon prime and is really lovely

What you have sounds fine as it is.

If you must add to it, I like Whittards for gifty tea/coffee/hot choc stuff. Nice coffee and some flavoured syrup?

Tea and coffee is a good idea.

She bites her nails so nail varnish is out, I'd like to buy her a scarf but a luxury version would be out of my price range this time.

Biscuits and lip balm and a make up bag are a good idea.

Thanks everyone.

Do you mean you have 50/60 left or in total. I think what you've got sounds lovely but you can get a three month bloom and wild flower gift subscription for 60 pound. That'd be really nice and they do printable gift cards. Im sure there are discount cards knocking around.

If you want to add one more thing to what you've got already 'this works sleep spray' is amazing. I dont know if you'd get it online now, Amazon usually have it or big department stores sometimes do. Space nk always have it in.
