What has gone wrong for you at Christmas?

Every year it feels as if something goes wrong, entirely unpredictable but predictable. Also it always requires a shop / specialist that will be closed for more than the two days. Over the years we've had:

A pregnancy scare
A boiler pack up
The dishwasher pack up
Illnesses
A Filling fall out
Longest traffic jam when trying to visit inlaws (and not enough fuel)

Perhaps it's just us, but there's something about Christmas Day and Boxing day that makes otherwise healthy people ill and otherwise reliable white goods conk out.

This year I predict that DD's pet will require a visit to the vet , she'll probably decide a visit is required at 4.30pm on Christmas Eve.

Is it just us?

I broke my leg 3 weeks ago so this is going to be an interesting Christmas lol

Our gas cooker still isn't connected, and won't be before Christmas.
We spent Monday night working out how to do Christmas dinner without a cooker in the house.

When I was a kid the power went out at about 10.30am Christmas morning and wasn't back in action until about 3pm. I have no idea what we did though as I can't remember so can't tell the full story!!

Then oven packed up last year halfway through cooking the turkey Sad

My dog is currently not herself. Not ill enough for vet attention but something is going on. Chances are she will deteriorate on Christmas Eve.

Power cut after dh had been playing his zombie game for 4 hours straight.

We lived next door to a funeral home

Their generator worked.

We have got fucked pipes in our kitchen and they won't be fixed until after Christmas. So lots of washing up upstairs, wiping sides down with wetwipes and giant faff! (We are abroad, nothing will get done until mañana = 12th January, or thereabouts.

2 years ago i had tonsilitis and we had to reschedule both Christmas lunch (cooking for in-laws) and Boxing Day lunch (cooking for friends). Nice to hang about in jammies, hideous to have tonsilitis.

I hope this year is chaos-free!

I was going to say nothing much - but my gran, dp's father and dp's gran all died within 3 weeks of christmas (different years), and Dd1 spent last year in a full leg cast, but it was after an elective op - so good news really. Most of our christmas mishaps tend to be related to dentists/teeth.

SleepFreeZone · 20/12/2017 15:00

Well I have no kitchen and my Dad died yesterday, so this Christmas is already a write off

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 20/12/2017 15:15

We've had mumps and illnesses previous christmases. This year I down with the worst tonsillitis ever. Still loads to do. Plus to top it all I messed up the internet contract with sky and now it's not due to come on until the 3rd of Jan. 90% of the Christmas presents require internet. Happy Christmas kids Xmas Sad

I woke up yesterday with a horrid chest infection and have shed loads to do tomorrow on my day off, feel even worse today, currently curled up on the sofa having left work early feeling very sorry for myself. DS will be bouncing in the door in about 10 minutes all sugared up after their class Christmas party today

ScrabbleFiend · 20/12/2017 15:25

And now that seems completely minor to what some people are dealing with. Sorry for your loss SleepFree SadFlowers
