Do you chop a bit off the bottom of your Christmas tree?

Do you chop and off the bottom off your Christmas tree in the same way as flowers to help them ‘from the water’?

The annual Christmas argument over trees has started in our house.

Yes you should. Trees produce a resin which heals the surface when the trees are cut initially, to prevent water loss. Saw off around 6-8 cm just before you put in a stand with water. Trees can ‘drink’ quite a lot, so top up every day.

I don’t with a non drop one as they don’t drop whatever you do.

Ours was chopped by the place we bought it and the trunk thinned a bit........and we had to chop a bit off the tallest pointy branch because I chose a 7' this year and by the time we put it in the tree stand , it was a bit too tall

We did last year and our tree was beautiful. This year we forgot and it died within a week

Yes, Dh always saws a slice off the bottom.

It then goes in a bucket of wet gravel which we keep topped up with water. Our trees always last pretty well until 12th night.

Yes, though the place we got it from did it this year, while we were there.
