Help - Dance & Move Beatbo (Fisher Price) from Tesco

I grabbed this in a hurry for a 14 month old. It is in an open 'Try Me' box. I try it and it runs for all of 10 seconds. Now, I assume if I dismember the box and put in more batteries it might work better but the box says it comes with batteries so you'd expect working ones. Now - does this thing run for a sensible time, is it good for a 14 mo, and I suck up the run-down batteries or do I take it back and frantically think of something else for her?
Please help - not a lot of experience with this age group. TIA.

They "try me" thing only runs for a short time, so as not to run down the batteries when it is used for real. Once the box is opened and the toy set up then it will be fine.
I haven't explained that very well (too early for me) but hopefully you know what I mean.

I would always expect to put batteries in a toy I had bought my DS, either straight away or after a short period. The ones it comes with are usually just for display purposes.

DS has the beatbo and it's ok - he prefers the small dog shaped one to the big one. It gets loads and loads of 5 star reviews so I presume some children adore it but it's definitely just 'ok' in this house.

JediStoleMyBike · 16/12/2017 07:16

Just ok in this house too. But we've had it months and not changed the batteries yet.

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 16/12/2017 07:18

It’s ok in this house. It has a try me option on the switch IIRC. Once it’s switched to ‘on’ I’m sure it will be fine.

Oh and it runs for a long time with loads of different options of music. You can also record your own song. My eldest loves to leave it playing “(babies name) is a poo head.”

Hmmalittlefishy · 16/12/2017 07:19

We have one and dc the same age loves it.
It sings one song and moves its head about and the other side asks you to say something then repeats it in a song.
The tummy also lights up
I would carefully take it out of the box, replace batteries then try it. If it's still not lasting then I would return for another one
There is an off switch too under the feet

This will be a demo mode, which can be deactivated when opened as pp said. Can't comment on the specific toy but if the kid is like dc, noisy toys are their favourites. Parents may hate the noise, mind! We have a small handful of things which are sufficiently noisy and annoying that they're not kept out.

Cross post with everyone else. My fingers haven't fully woken up!

TiggeryBear · 16/12/2017 07:57

We've had ours a year & not replaced the batteries yet. It was used loads but seems to be put to one side now.
