Anyone In Surrey Have Cheap Xmas Presents I Can Buy?

magnolia74 · 13/12/2017 15:14

Seriously struggling to get the kids presents... have managed a few but money is so tight I'd have to give up bills to buy anything else really!
Does anyone local to Surrey (Epsom) have new in box items that would be suitable for mother in law, father in law, girl 14, girls 18 and boy 12??
Will consider anything if it's new in box and cheaper than shops 😞

This should go in classics as a reference text for the gullible.

Aridane · 13/12/2017 22:11

Those of us who have reported the OP as a serial beggar have got the following response -which I think somewhat misses the point:

Hi all, sorry for the mass mail,

Thank you for all your reports about that thread - we've posted on it reminding everyone as we always do that not everyone on the internet is who they say there are and that we would always caution posters not to give more of themselves, emotionally and financially, than they can afford.

Mummummummummummmmmmy · 13/12/2017 22:12

Unbelievable! There are so many people struggling and you've come on here beggingShock go and sell your horse.

On a side note, didn't there used to be a swap thread? I remember getting a lovely book from someone on here and I sent them one back.

Lynnm63 · 13/12/2017 22:28

It must work as she’s been posting these type of threads for half a decade. I imagine nice people have been sending the cf stuff for years.

Saladtongs · 13/12/2017 22:46

MNHQ should put a warning in the title to be honest. There's quite a lot of these type of threads about now so people should be made aware straight away.

Anyone In Surrey Have Cheap Xmas Presents I Can Buy? [GIMME GIMME GIMME warning]

Necky or what Grin

BLUESEAPARADISE · 13/12/2017 23:14
Xmas Shock
Aridane · 13/12/2017 23:40

Well - with 5 children, a horse and Botox, it’s no wonder OP is running short. On other threads she makes money from competitions and ebaying.mmand recommends free cycle form getting freebie presents. An old hand at this.

pisacake · 14/12/2017 00:07

Can't you turn the horse into glue and then use the glue to make handmade crafty gifts for all the family?

Much nicer than nasty BNIB shop bought stuff.

TheRollingCrone · 14/12/2017 00:22

Is anyone quite chuffed we (MN Massive) have our own CF? Grin

You're fucking shocking OP

paxillin · 14/12/2017 00:29

HQ said they can't find any evidence of it.

RustyPaperclips · 14/12/2017 02:00

OP I live in Surrey too, if I give you my address can you please pass on any left over presents? In box only of course Smile

magnolia74 · 14/12/2017 09:44

Wow!
Lovely to be surrounded by such amazing people...
I never once asked for anything to be given at all, yep I loan a horse (not own) yes I post very so often when life is shit!
Not once have I given anyone my address or accepted help ever!!
I genuinely wanted to try and find cheap (er) presents if possible so my kids etc would think I can afford stuff that i probably can't - hence not wanting second hand as they are not young enough to not notice!
If you look back st any previous posts it's a matter of venting not asking!

Enjoy Christmas everyone x

I guess the OP got it all sorted with your invaluable advice and generosity? 🤔😉

Maudlinmaud · 14/12/2017 09:48

Magnolia why would you think people would sell you new items cheaper than in the shops?
People have given you advice on where to buy discount gifts, B&M, home bargains etc.

magnolia74 · 14/12/2017 09:56

Maudlinmaud

Because people often sell unwanted items cheaper as there's no receipt etc or they have had them for a while...

It really was obviously the wrong place to ask as I forgot just how nasty and bitchy most mumsnetters are hence hardly ever posting or being in here!

RobotGoat · 14/12/2017 09:57

magnolia74 There is no shame in struggling a bit financially, and it would probably do your kids good to hear about it rather than you trying to pretend to then that everything is fine. I understand why you don't want to do that, but better they learn now the importance of budgeting and not spending beyond your means, as that will be an invaluable life lesson for when they're older (especially your 18YO). I'm not saying you should tell them all the details, but a simple, "Money's a bit tight this year, so you won't be getting as much as your used to," should be fine. It would also do them good to learn that there's nothing wrong with second-hand Smile

RobotGoat · 14/12/2017 10:00

And I'm going to repeat this in case it's been lost amongst all the posts, but please do take yourself over to the MSE budgeting board for longer-term support. The debt-free wannabe posters are really supportive and kind, and will help you sort your finances out. Christmas isn't a surprise each year, and with some careful planning you can make sure you don't end up in this position next year.

Maudlinmaud · 14/12/2017 10:06

Well they might do that after Christmas Magnolia but before Christmas not so much. People usually plan and buy gifts with the recipient in mind, so they won't necessarily think they'll be unwanted.
Money is tight at this time of year for many people, definitely listen to Robots advice.
I wasn't snarking or being bitchy, I really wasn't. Hope things work out for you.

Battleax · 14/12/2017 11:41

Can you really not see how this annual "venting" looks OP?

Aridane · 14/12/2017 12:36

magnolia74 - it's not that we're nasty and bitchy - it's just that you've started similar threads over the years and this is a notorious time for begging threads. Plus having a horse suggests a level of well-offness that some posters can only aspire to.

magnolia74 · 14/12/2017 12:56

Battleax

2009 and 2011 as I've been so kindly quoted is not really annual and to be honest I don't care how it looks, I didn't post to look any particular way - I just forgot you get so very judged on here regardless of what or when you post 😞

OP posts:
BubbaLips · 14/12/2017 12:59

.

magnolia74 · 14/12/2017 13:00

Aridane

But that's just it, not once did I beg!! I didn't ask for help in any way other than if anyone is trying to sell stuff cheaper than in shops I'd be interested in saving money - and as for having a horse, he's on loan, not owned and we have him as part of a work agreement with my 14 year old who rides him - but that's not anyone's business - of course on here everyone judges everyone's business anyway 🙄
