Should I buy the new snowflake?

Each year for the last 4 years I bought my mum the ltd edition snowflake from Swarovski, she loved them. Mum died in Feb this year this is our first Christmas without her and we aren't putting up a tree or celebrating really we just don't want to this year. I'm wondering though if I should buy this years snowflake and keep the tradition?

Next year they'll go on our tree, seems sad to lose a nice tradition Mum and I had but is it a waste now she's no longer here to enjoy it? Xmas Sad

I'm sorry for your loss.

If it will bring you comfort, then it's not a waste. But perhaps make this a symbolic, "here's one last snowflake for you Mum"

I'd buy it. It sounds like a lovely tradition to carry on for your mum. A lovely connection to Christmas every year.

Slightly different but my mum died last November and I was in M&S buying a jacket and black ties for my DS and DH to wear to the funeral. I was offered the Beauty advent calendar and I initially said no as it felt disrespectful and a bit odd to buy it on the back of buying clothes for her funeral. But. My mum loved skincare stuff and make up. She was an Avon lady back in the 70s. Even as she got older she still loved it all. She would have loved a beauty advent calendar. So I got it. I have it again this year and I do think of her every morning when I open it. She would have really loved one.

I hope you have a lovely peaceful Christmas.

I wouldn't. I think you are looking for a way to make your mum part of Christmas but this probably isn't it. Unless you have dc or relatives to go and buy it with and turn it into a family tradition.

You don't sound as if you really want one, and I bet your mum wouldn't want you to do it if you're not that keen. It's a lovely idea though. Maybe you could start a new tradition and get a Christmas decoration in her favourite colour each year, then the link is there but you have something you love.

Sorry for your loss Flowers

I think buy one this year but draw a line there and don't keep buying them in future. Treasure them as a reminder of your mum's life and the happy Christmases you had together.

It's really hard isn't it? My mum died 6 years ago and I've always put her decorations up since and found it comforting. This year her fibre optic Christmas tree ( monstrous but a real reminder of her!) didn't work and I bought a replacement but I do regret it as it's a look a like and not hers. On that basis, I wouldn't buy it, but treasure the ones you have x

Do you love them too, OP? If so, I’d buy it, and keep buying them.

If you really just got pleasure from her pleasure, I’d not buy it, but instead next year enjoy hanging the 4 you have as a reminder of lovely Christmases past with your DM.

Flowers for you.

Sorry for your loss.

Getting the snowflake each could be a lovely way of remembering your Mum at Christmas?

LazySusan11 · 12/12/2017 13:53

Thank you, I do love them but not as much as mum, I don't want to buy one then have it as a reminder of the year she died. Maybe next year I'll put hers on the tree and buy the 2018 edition as a memory.
