I would say one of my first ones I remember being stuck in a hotel as our home was flooded at the time

Last Christmas Sad

I found out my partner had been cheating, found the evidence on his phone a couple days before Christmas, he then played the suicide card and police were called. I was then advices to leave my home as there were concerns for my safety (and my kids), I stayed put, changed the locks and added extra security. Christmas Eve I found my dd had nits. So we spent Christmas morning covered in nit lotion and scared that my ex would turn up.

This Christmas will hopefully be a lot more relaxed with just me and the dd’s.

Christmas 2014. Had a brilliant day planned. Was going to do a stint with meals on wheels & then go around new partners in the evening. Fell so ill, that I had to blow out Xmas eve drinks for the first time since mid 80’s & was in bed until Dec 27th.
Has made me eternally greatful for the brilliant 50 odd other Christmas Days I’ve had before & since

Some truly heartbreaking stories here 😞
I'm lucky I've not had any really horrible Christmasses but my DH and I had a few years where we would row every Boxing Day over his decision to spend the entire day from around 11-12 in the afternoon drinking with his brother and uncle in the pub while they watched football (a family tradition apparently). He thought I was being totally unreasonable as he would 'be home early' but I would be left on my own with the DC all day (which I don't mind) but then would have to put up with him turning up shitfaced at some point and no use to man nor beast, therefore wiping out the entire day. I decided to just try and let it go one year after my DD said I hate Boxing Day as you and daddy always argue, and now I just accept that he goes out Boxing Day and I make my own plans to go to my parents or MILs for tea or something. I'm trying really hard not to sweat the small stuff and just enjoy Christmas with my family this year as I found out yesterday that an old friend passed away from cancer at the weekend. She was only 40 and had a 6yo son 😞 It's made me realise that the things that wind me up and that I get stressed about aren't really that important in the grand scheme of things.

Hope everyone has a peaceful Christmas this year xxx

Coconutspongexo · 12/12/2017 19:25

Mine is nowhere near as bad as these and puts a lot into perspective Flowers

Mine was probably the first Christmas without my Grandad - he basically brought me up that same Christmas, Christmas Day, someone shot our living room and dining room windows, it appears they got the house two doors down mixed up with ours. It was just a shitty horrible scary day.

Janetsadick · 12/12/2017 19:39

I discovered my husbands affair. Just before we went to lunch with his whole family.

If you can beat that I’ll eat my hat

Janetsadick · 12/12/2017 19:39

God hadn’t read the full thread.

I bet someone’s child died and now I’ll look like a right dick Sad

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 12/12/2017 19:40

In a homeless hostel.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 12/12/2017 19:43

Oh these are so sad. The first Xmas after DM died was pretty rough, but was topped a few years later by the first Xmas after DH died. Flowers for all of you, and I sincerely hope you all have a better one this year

WineGummyBear · 12/12/2017 19:49

So sorry to read about these wretched experiences. Special thoughts and good wishes to those of you who are still suffering.

My Christmas Day miscarriage was a low point. I don't remember whether it was miscarriage #4 #5 or #6 but I had to put on a brave face for DS and in-laws when I just wanted to bury myself in the sand.

Things have improved a lot since.

My husband had his xmas party 2 years ago on the 22nd of December.
When he came in he lied in bed next to me texting sweet nothings to some woman from work. Thanking her for the great time he had and telling her she was beautiful. I heard him and went mad. Had to spend the next day with his family pretending everything was fine. And the rest of Christmas for the sake of my kids.

glow1984 · 12/12/2017 19:51

Last year. DPs Dad had just died. The anniversary of his death is today :(

BikeRunSki · 12/12/2017 19:58

2011- DS(then 3) was on day 9 of not having a poo, with associated moaning, groaning, pain and misery.
DD was 2 months old - she was born by crash section and I only managed to stand up straight without pain on Christmas Eve.

We had Christmas food, but couldn’t be bothered to cook it. Had cheese sandwhiches for our main meal!

ALemonyPea · 12/12/2017 20:07

Some very sad stories. 💐

Mine, although not sad, would be the last three christmases spent with MIL. She made them hell for DH and I, and although I’ve never told DH, the first Christmas after she died, I didn’t miss her one bit.

TinselCrack · 12/12/2017 20:13

Some heart breaking tales here.

Ours was the year norovirus swept through like wildfire. 15 members of the family within the first 48 hours and it went on and on. Just horrendous. Still makes me nauseous to remember. I think through copious amounts of gin, I avoided it, but was constantly clearing up after 5 of my lot.

hellomynameislisa · 12/12/2017 20:16

When I was a Kid, my aunt had a problem with her husband so she stayed for 2 weeks in my house with all her family, even the dog came. was the most uncomfortable, annoying Christmas ever. Was so bad that she never came back for the holidays and that was like 21 years ago.

mossyroundhill · 12/12/2017 20:27

The Christmas I was 10, I got my first period Christmas Day morning. Screamed for my mum because I was so scared and she came up and laughed at me.

The Christmas after my Grandpa (and last living grandparent) died, when I was about 14. My mums second cousin stood up at the dinner table and began to go through all our relatives who weren’t with us any more. Had to leave the table because I started to cry.

Flowers to everyone here, I hope you all have happier times this year.

RandomMess · 12/12/2017 20:59

The year I was 17 and left home alone as unwell and had to call the GP out as couldn't stop vomiting and was in utter agony. The year I had to leave MILs house half way through the day as things were so bad between DH and I that I literally couldn't bear the pretence a moment longer.

Not a patch on many of the previous Thanks to all those much loved and no longer with us.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 12/12/2017 21:09

I can equal it! I'd found Christmas presents in the glove compartment on my husband's car - I wasn't snooping. I had a good guess they weren't for me, and on Christmas morning I got a different set of gifts. His parents were here for the day, the children were young and loved Christmas, and I had to do an Emma Thompson (Love, Actually.) It was the longest day of my life.

PurplePotatoes · 12/12/2017 21:15

When I was about 10 my sister (15) phoned the police and told them my mum had chased her down the street with a carving knife (she didn't - one incident/lie in a long line of others). I spent most of the day upstairs on my own watching only fools and horses while the police were there.

Bostin · 12/12/2017 21:28

The norovirus Xmas. 5 of us in close proximity. Say no more

NotBurpeesAgain · 12/12/2017 21:56

So far 2013, when DH culminated a year of sulking by humiliating me in front of my family, refusing to touch the food I had prepared, etc.

I have just learnt that DC4 will not make it to birth so 2017 will be even worse. Sad

BikeRunSki · 12/12/2017 22:08

Burpees so sorry to hear that.

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 12/12/2017 22:20

All presents that have been bought are wrapped, DD was in bed by 9.40, I did a wash, put DD's jeans and some socks on the radiator, as she's got a dress rehearsal tomorrow for the Christmas concert on Thursday, made 2 packed suppers for tomorrow, DD's got 2 chicken and bacon sandwiches, a Mars bar and a big bag of cookies, DS2's got a pizza and a Coco Pops cereal bar, in bed now. 🎁😴👖🎅🎄😋🍗🍫🍪🍕😴

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 12/12/2017 22:21

Oops, wrong thread. Xmas Blush

Guiltypleasures001 · 12/12/2017 22:54

Mine was dd who had a rare condition, came down very ill on Boxing Day and we lost her just before New Year's Eve.

My anxiety starts about sept for the placing of the Xmas wreath and when to go in Dec to the cemetery, realised last year for the first time the ex hadn't left anything there at all. Just confirms to me what a hateful cunt he always was and is.

That was over 20yrs ago now, but it feels like yesterday this time of year
