No idea what to get mum for Christmas?!

I have no idea what to get my mum for Christmas Xmas Sad

She's not really 'into' clothes or perfume. Makeup is possible but I'm unsure what to get. She liked The White Queen book but I don't know what's similar; I think she said she read one about a red queen and hated it, I think they were meant to be by the same author or something. She's 41. What would you appreciate getting (if you're roughly that age). Has to fit in suitcase and preferably something not breakable. She's also trying to lose weight so I don't want to buy wine.

TIAXmas Smile

mines getting a Weather Bottle! She likes barometers and thermometers, and these weather crystal bottles are pretty, so I opted for one of those, and a voucher.

Fitbit? Kindle? Plant?

anothernetter · 09/12/2017 19:24

I copied someone else on here and have bought my mum series one of The Crown on DVD. I will be buying her other stuff as well though.

Pjs
Dressing gown
Purse
Scarf
Handbag
Afternoon tea voucher

Lobsterquadrille2 · 09/12/2017 20:53

Decent mascara or night cream (I like the M&S Ultimate Sleep one).
Scented candle - posh one.
Bath stuff (again, posh stuff).
Earrings.
A kindle, if she likes reading.

I'm 48 and these are some of my DD's gifts to me in recent years that I've really appreciated.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 09/12/2017 20:56

Maybe a subscription to an upmarket beauty box for three months!!

I can't believe I have a toddler and I am older than your mum!!!😩😩😩I feel OLD!!!!

Japanese · 09/12/2017 20:59

I am 41

I would like Charlotte Tilbury magic cream

A decent bottle of vodka

Clinique 'take the day off' balm

Bobbi brown nail polish

YSL mascara

A fluffy white dressing gown with a hood

A cashmere scarf

I'm 43 and was pleased to get a Kindle a couple of years ago. I prefer to buy my own make up as I have certain trusted brands. Jewellery is always welcome - I like statement-style necklaces. I can never have too many scarves, either. I got a posh umbrella from my mum last year which I appreciated.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 09/12/2017 21:11

Last my mum has a four year old if that helps Grin

Thank you for all of the suggestions!Smile

Yes, that does help, thank you Ophelia!!!😂😂 I hope you find the perfect present!!

OrangeCactus · 09/12/2017 21:16

I've struggled with my mums present this year!

I've just bought her the Urban Decay 'ultimate Naked basics' palette from John Lewis as it's got 37% off at the moment, so was £24.89 which is a really good price. My DM doesn't like shiny/sparkly eyeshadows as she said it ages her Hmm so I think she will like this.

gingerbreadmam · 09/12/2017 21:20

I'm getting DM double wear foundation and benefit mascara.

I got her some skechers for her birthday and they were very well received.

She also has a nomination bracelet she loves and a few joma jewellery bracelets that she loves.

elQuintoConyo · 09/12/2017 21:21

I'm 41 with a 5yo. I'd hate: chocolates, alcohol, candles, make up, bath stuff.

I'd love a fancy lunch with the person giving the gift, without my 5yo.

ClothEaredBint · 09/12/2017 21:23

I'm only 36, so the stuff I like

Amazon Vouchers for my kindle
Google Play Vouchers for my Tablet
A new Watch
Vintage Retro Jewellery
Nice quirky patterned Scarf (the pretty ones, I have about 15 of them so far)
Make up (urban decay especially)

luckylavender · 09/12/2017 21:53

Eye shadow palette, Urban Decay naked or one of the coloured ones depending on her taste or something Charlotte Tilbury.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 09/12/2017 21:58

She's never really worn eyeshadow :/

3 month subscription to willoughby book club. You give the names of books/ authors she likes/ dislikes and they send a book a month based on her likes. My dh got me a 6 month subscription last year having read titles and authors from spines of books on my bookshelf and entered them online. I have absolutely loved every single book.

73kittycat73 · 10/12/2017 00:13

Hi OP, the books you are talking about are by Philippa Gregory. She mainly does historical fiction. You can see all of her books on Amazon if you search her name.

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 10/12/2017 00:33

A magazine subscription
Paid for manicure/pedicure/massage while you babysit
Paid for lunch date with you
Theatre tickets (see above re babysitting)
An “appreciation” album with photos of you and her, and a brief description of what makes her special to you

This is a really good thread of gift ideas for women that aren't twee like smelly candles. I've saved this thread so that I can use it for future gift ideas.

excellent gift ideas for women

hevonbu · 10/12/2017 06:50

A Kindle seems to be one option, I would have wanted one had I not had an e-reader already.

Jaffalong · 10/12/2017 10:44

A flower subscription from Bloom & Wild, you choose either a 3,6 or 12 month subscription. Bloom & Wild will then deliver flowers through the letterbox for that period.

ClothEaredBint · 10/12/2017 11:18

Voucher for Afternoon Tea somewhere?
