Useful Christmas jumper hacks

I couldn't easily find a Christmas themed cardie for my tall 5 year old daughter that she liked. So I am getting some buttons from here and sewing them on a good quality cardie previous sourced inexpensively elsewhere.

Usingbuttons means that there shouldn't be too many problems with a gentle machine wash. I am planning to leave the existing buttons on the cardie and add the shepherds and sheep etc as decorations.

DS has a Star wars sweatshirt from Gap of which he is very fond, I'm planning to give it some Christmas lights (but he has to find it first).

I haven't ordered the angels, but think they are cute.

In the past I have cut a snowflake from felt and tacked that plus a load of the small tinsel style craft pom poms (pound shop) on to a plain jumper.

I had a thread the other day about this issue, because I think the Christmas jumper phenomenon is very wasteful and symptomatic of the disposable society... DIY was suggested.
We have felt Christmas decorations (trees, snowflakes etc) that could easily be tacked onto a plain jumper.

DS2 is Year 6 and will literally wear a christmas jumper for the one day at school Its annoying that they are encouraging such commercialism and waste. So in the same way that I drew spots onto a very old school shirt with coloured felt tip pens for children in need rather than go out and buy a spotty jumper, I am using a 50p piece of tinsel for the Christmas jumper.

I guess that if I go to the bother of doing something crafty I would like it to be washable and reusable at least for a few weeks this year and next. I am also thinking that Darth Vader may permanently acquire his halo of lights and DD might want to wear the sheep and shepherds for longer as well.

Best hack ever

I know someone who, forgetting until the last minute about the dress code for one party, got a plain red jumper and pritt-sticked on a bunch of cotton wool balls to make a snow scene. It lasted the night and she was able to get them off again as it was only pritt (I think possibly messy removal - but the jumper was wearable again).

As a teacher I used to add pom poms and tinsel to children's uniforms if they forgot Christmas jumper day. Became too popular!
