Where do you get your turkey from

Previous years I’ve always got our turkey from the local turkey farm but it’s closed down. Would like a roll or crown for ease for 12 people. When it comes to quality and value am I best going to the butchers or order from say m & s or other supermarket?

Butcher every time. I tried supermarket last year and was really disappointed. It's just not the same from anywhere but a butcher.

Since moving to the US we hunt them in the fall.

They are intelligent crafty critters! But wild ones taste really good.

We have always ordered a turkey crown from M and S. A friend reccomended the turkey crown from Iceland. I bought one and it was fab! I have still ordered one from m and s but also have two Iceland ones in the freezer too.

Local butcher. Just doesn't taste the same from supermarkets. Even M & S meat doesn't compare.

Aldi for us! Free range Norfolk bronze, a fraction of the cost of the local farm shop. It’s all in the cooking...we’ve never been disappointed.

You need to know where your butcher sources it from. If I was paying £70 for a turkey, I want to know where it came from. One of the local butchers sells free range bronze Gressingham turkeys (which also supplies Tesco Taste The Difference Free Range Bronze). Butcher sells it for £13 per kg, Tesco sells it for £7 per kg - I'm all for supporting the local independents but that price differential makes you think twice. I'm getting mine direct from the farm gate.

Butcher for me. Have had m and and Waitrose in the past but I can't be arsed with he queues. Plus the butcher sources local same county meat.

Even Ocado sells Gressingham free range bronze turkeys for £10 per kg.
People generally need to be more savvy!

The freezer in Sainsbury's or Tesco, have had turkey from local farm / butcher in the past & tasted no difference. It's all in the cooking.

We just get one from Tesco. To be honest though there’s only 4 of us (2 adults, 2 children) so it wouldn’t make sense to spend a fortune. We just get a crown for about £20ish.

We used to buy them from the butcher's but now we usually have duck on Christmas day so DH will pick one up from the supermarket on Christmas Eve if they have any reduced and we have that the day after boxing Day

We have a poultry factory near us so usually get a £50ish turkey crown 'from M&S' with all the M&S packaging from £9 each down to 2 for £7 on Christmas Eve depending on how risky you want to leave it!! If it was only immediate family I'd play chicken til Christmas Eve but might go on 22nd or 23rd this year.

In the past I've bought 3-4 crown variations but no freezer room for such antics. I struggle to taste the difference between 'good' and 'bad' turkey but will buy Sainsburys live well gammon as its the best I've found for being lean & tasty!
