Which supermarket are you doing your Christmas food shop with?

So, after not getting a slot with Tesco I know have to actually go Christmas food shopping. I keep seeing nice things advertised for each supermarket but I don’t think I can handle going to more than one to do my shop. So where are you doing your food shop?

Dragon icelands party food looks really good this year, we have a new Iceland’s near by so I might pop in there for a few bits.

Asda

EdinaMonsoon · 29/11/2017 15:45

Ocado for general groceries and butcher for whatever meat we decide to have (won't be turkey though). I shop with them weekly and rarely have subs (and where they do occur they are sensible rather than the utter crap we used to be offered by Tesco years ago). They are just as good over Christmas too. That said, I was peed off at having my regular Friday night delivery cancelled to allow for their Christmas deliveries and then being told that if I wanted to place an order that week I would have to pay for almost £10 for delivery (it's usually covered under their Smart Pass scheme). To be fair to them, I complained and was given a £7 voucher but I wonder how many other regular Smart Pass customers have just gone with it.

M&S for duck and turkey and odd treats. Rest from Asda and Sainsbury's. I've made my mincemeat already and may make a chocolate log. I'll probably go to a shop every day for 3-4 days until I have everything we need/want. Dh will get the drinks as I can't lift heavy stuff.

Waitrose

Frouby · 29/11/2017 15:54

Butcher for turkey. Then a mix of m and s, aldi and tesco. I have 3 all quite local.

Though I am definetly not buying loads this year. Was sick of the sight of food last year.

Will get enough on 23rd to last until 27th. So normal food 23rd, picky bits 24th, christmas dinner for 4 on 25th and then cold meat, pickles and chips on 26th.

Then will see what we have left and shop accordingly.

Butcher for the meat. Lidl for everything else.

Am already stocking up on random bits of Lidl Christmas stuff - their biscuits/chocolates etc are great and we build up a stockpile to last us through January. Love their Anton Berg-a-like chocolates. They already have the wine range in and have a load of Eiswein in, last year that was lush. Will also buy random cheap knockoff liqueurs.

Their brandy soaked dried fruit is fantastic for making Christmas pudding/cake etc.

Will probably buy some frozen duck/goose/any of the Deluxe meat stuff they don't usually have while it's in and stuff it in the freezer for Jan/Feb.

Otherwise all my fruit and veg is from them, they'll have fancy sprouts and stuff in nearer the time just like Waitrose does.

Butchers for Turkey. Already ordered and will collect Christmas Eve morning.

Ocado for veg etc. It's a normal food shop from there.

Then Sainsbury's for snacks and drink as we have about £60 of points.

We also buy larger things from Costco, such as cokes and beers. We have a lot of people in and out through December so they are always offered food and drink.

Local Butcher for the meat, fruit and veg delivery from Abel and Cole, already have Christmas chocolates and baking ingredients so the food is pretty much covered. Will buy the milk, cream and other stuff from Morrisons with More vouchers. Teetotal here which cuts down costs.

DH,DD and I are vegetarian (so either Lidl Nut Roast or Quorn Roast as our base)
DS is a chicken eater so I'll get him a FR chicken breast.

All (except the Lidle) from Sainsburys , I collect my Nectar Points just for Christmas Xmas Grin

DH will buy his beer (usually Asda)

I've made my cake, I'll make marzipan and royal icing.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 29/11/2017 21:39

My Nectar points are solely for Christmas too. Think we must've had about £180.00 worth this year. Best year ever for them!

No butchers in this town apart from the sort that sell dodgy looking pre-packed 'Chinese style'or 'barbecue'chicken wings. So, meat from Tesco finest range and pretty much everything else as well. Aldi have lovely cooked meats, so will take a drive over there. Luckily, I managed to get a delivery booked. Our town is a shrine to tanning salons and nail bars.

neversleepagain · 29/11/2017 22:00

Butchers for the meat.

Waitrose slot booked for the 22nd.

Getting bit in Aldi, Morrisons and M&S.

Juanbablo · 02/12/2017 09:26

I think Waitrose. We are going to go in today and buy anything freezable. Pigs in blankets, sausage meat etc and anything like dried fruit, crackers. Then we will order our meat to collect on the 23rd.

NotCitrus · 02/12/2017 09:43

Butcher for meat, Lidl and Sainsburys for most of it, but usually pop into Tesco and M&S on Xmas Eve to see if there's anything interesting or reduced or a surreal present.

We also go to Sainsburys on Boxing Day as the kids can get huge bargains with Christmas money and we stock up on fancy food for the rest of the holidays.

All the supermarkets are within 10 min walk - so trotting past the queues of cars with a shopper trolley is fun.

HRTpatch · 02/12/2017 09:45

M and S for everything

AWholeLottaRosie · 02/12/2017 10:21

Booths and Tesco mainly but I'll be hitting Iceland and Lidl in the next week or so.
We don't live anywhere near Booths but they deliver nationwide at Christmas and the food comes direct from their warehouse not from the supermarket shelves (so it's not going to be out of stock).

GreyMorning · 02/12/2017 10:31

Ocado, local farm shop and a local small holder. Same as always.

AnnPerkins · 02/12/2017 12:27

I have a £16 off £80 spend Waitrose voucher so there probably.

I have also reserved a Sainsbury’s slot with two bottles of champagne so must make my mind up or cancel, otherwise I’ll be waking up to the most extravagant delivery ever on the 23rd.

clearingaspaceforthecat · 02/12/2017 13:03

Abel & Cole for turkey.
M&S for Ham and desserts. Mixture of M&S and Waitrose for other bits.

pontiouspilates · 02/12/2017 13:04

Waitrose - Ninja shop early doors on 23rd for the whole lot.

deecrepid · 03/12/2017 00:28

Ocado as usual.
Ten years and never a single problem for Christmas delivery. Cannot understand people who have problems.

AnnabelleLecter · 03/12/2017 00:33

M&S mainly
rest from local bakery, deli, butcher and chocolate shop.
