What are you getting for your partner?

My partner also has a birthday very near Christmas, and I have no idea what to get him. He says clothes, but I don't want to do this for both Christmas and birthday. He is not very materialistic, and has lots of things he deems adequate, so would not appreciate a new watch for example. However I really want to show some appreciation as I've been really ill this year and he has taken a lot on without complaint! I would probably budget £200 for each Christmas and birthday

We don’t really do presents as such, but I’ll make him a stocking with chocolates, ales, a small game, Lush bits etc in.

LearnFromThePast · 29/11/2017 09:29

Got a lot of these during Black Friday

Small Wacom tablet
Cheaper version of a Fitbit
Clothes
Underwater camera
Dinosaur egg cup

Still need to get some more bits but will look in December

heron98 · 29/11/2017 09:36

I had ideas of buying him a bottle of whisky and some new trainers.

However he came home on Saturday afternoon after being in town having bought himself both those things for no reason! So now I'm back to square 1.

Prusik · 29/11/2017 09:40

Makes my gift for DH seem woefully inadequate but we're on a really small budget. I've got DH a tasting selection of different coffees and DS (10 months) has 'bought' him a mug to go with it Blush

HandbagCrazy · 29/11/2017 09:44

My DH is a little like yours OP so I tend to go with experience gifts and replacing something that is seriously on its way out.

This year we're away over Christmas so I've got him tickets to watch a hockey match (we're going to be New York). Something he would love to do but wouldn't think about until we were there iyswim? I've also bought him a new multitool / Swiss Army knife thing as he broke 2 pieces of his old one on a camping trip.

haba · 29/11/2017 09:46

DowninFraggleRock could you link to that (if it's not outing)- my OH would love something like that!

crochetmonkey74 · 29/11/2017 09:52

we are doing the Want need wear read thing this year with an £80 budget

SOOOO much easier, I love it!

Goldenhandshake · 29/11/2017 09:56

ifonly4 · 29/11/2017 11:07

DH particularly wants an MP3 player and CD. Also giving him an Amazon vouchers, chocolate, toiletries.

Does your OH like any particularly alcohol, or perhaps some tickets to a concert/show even if just a local one. If you've given him clothes for say birthday, you could buy a few gifts (even if minor ones for Xmas) and give him a gift voucher for favourite shop which he can enjoy as and when during the year.

WhyamIBoredathome · 29/11/2017 11:16

I have the same OH issue ( December birthday) and he doesn't want much, when he does he just buys it.
For birthday he's got an expensive whisky that I know he's not tried yet and is highly rated.

For xmas last year I got him a watch because his got broken. I also got a Flavourly craft beer subscription - he thought it was brilliant as he got to try so many usual beers.
This year to change it up a bit I've done a BEER52.com one, which also sounds good.
You can cancel either after just one box or leave the subscription running depending on your budget.

I have a code for money off both of the sites, anyone who would like it is welcome to Pm me. Don't think they are single use.

WhyamIBoredathome · 29/11/2017 11:21

What about a subscription to Spotify/deezer/apple music/amazon video/Netflix ther similar thing if he doesn't have that already?

Kursk · 29/11/2017 13:06

DH says there is nothing he wants. However I have got him a new splitting axe,

TheHolidayArmadillo · 29/11/2017 13:25

Playstation game he wants
Maybe some aftershave
Socks
A book probably
A little lego set
Chocolate orange/chocolate coins/Toffifee

What is this watch storage box you all keep mentioning? It sounds like something ideal for him.

HeyMicky · 29/11/2017 13:36

Moleskine smart writing set - takes hand written notes and converts them

Plus a measurement tool thingy and a moisture reader for logs, and a book/chocolates for his stocking

AnonEvent · 29/11/2017 14:32

Mrs Hathaway your list has given me perfect 'top up' presents!!

I've just got DH a Wallet Ninja and some Form Cards, I'd never heard of either before.

MrsHathaway · 29/11/2017 14:34

My pleasure!

SatsukiKusakabe · 29/11/2017 18:40

Kindle Paperwhite as his old one broke, more than I would usually spend but he relies on it for commute and I would be lost without mine. Black Friday deal though.
Cheap case for it
Chicago Bears T shirt
Denzel Washington movie dvd (can’t remember the film but sports and Denzel will do the trick!)
Chicago bears keyring
Juergen Klopp bobble head for his desk

I will possibly get him the latest Robert Harris as well.

We do each other stockings with food and useful bits too, like hair gel, socks etc.

dolphinbbq · 29/11/2017 18:43

Chocolate
Calendar
Diary
Marvel box sets
Moss belt
PS4 / Xbox membership
Peter Kay tickets
Tshirts

He is typically very difficult to buy for. And doesn't really want anything!

secondhoneymoon · 29/11/2017 18:57

Another one with a difficult to buy for DH with a Birthday in December. Double nightmare. We've decided now not to buy each other Birthday presents at all and have a long weekend away on the spring instead. Helps a bit but Christmas still a challenge. I always feel happy if I find one thing, doesn't have to be expensive, which is different and he likes, to make up for the boring usual books &, clothes. He really likes the wooden spectacle stand I got him last year (thanks to a MN thread). I've got another one this year in a different colour for another room. Ive also bought a travel guide for a city he fancies visiting (which is a bit of a cheat as I'll go with him too)
He's never really been one for cocktails but has started having them occasionally so will make up a couple of kits with the ingredients for his favourites. still not found the 'one special thing' tho. Watching all the relevant threads in hope of inspiration

tarheelbaby · 29/11/2017 19:22

So interesting/good to see that plenty of men are not that bothered. My DH is so content. I want to do well by him but find it hard to choose anything. We are quite comfortable so often just buy what we want/need. He has no hobbies which require kit (golf/tennis balls, gloves/special socks, etc)

DH always needs socks so the DDs often give him those. He loves marzipan 'fruits' so we make sure to give him those. He likes whisky so I encourage rellies to give him that. He's not attached to any particular sort and actually prefers random variety.

Last year DDs gave him a cinema voucher but over 12 mos. no film appealed (!) so I fear we have just given a stack of ££ to the cinema company.

Our local is a very naice gastropub so sometimes I give him a voucher for there (good for me too).

In recent years, I've encouraged him, as our present to each other, to book a city break somewhere so that we can enjoy time together. His parents look after the DDs. Last year we had a fab time in Brighton. Another year we went to Cirencester. Initially, we went to Paris.
