What sort of cat treat to put in advent calendar (please don't judge me)

I am a bit embarrassed to ask!

Out dc have an advent calendar made from little buckets, I have always popped in a little present each and a biscuit for the dog for each day.

We have 6 month old kittens, and (having thought I was sorted with the advent calendar) dd1 pointed out today that they must be included. We have some very tiny Whiskas kitten treats, but I think they'll get rather lost, so I was wondering what sort would be good, if anyone had any suggestions?

I, of course, recognise that cats do not really need advent calendars or treats, and that this is not a really important issue. It is just meant to be a bit of fun that the dc will enjoy.

Dreamies. Your problem will be stopping them eating the whole calendar.

MetallicBeige · 28/11/2017 01:37

Yes, Dreamies.
Also you can buy packs of soft mice and scrunch balls in Poundstretcher/Pets at Home/most places 😉. You could put a few little toys in? Laser pointers are fairly cheap - that could be the big finish on the 24th.

Unashamed Crazy Cat Lady, who only does it with the children in mind too, honest. 😆

I am very grateful to receive anything other than derision for this thread!

Dreamies sound good, can I get them at a normal supermarket? Hoping not to trek to pets at home before Friday.

I am now considering the possibility to the cats pulling the whole thing down.

Good idea about the toys, but then what would I put in their stockings (I am only partially joking, they do have little stockings)?

Not sure about Aldi or Lidl, but I think the other main supermarkets do Dreamies. They come in different flavours, too. And need to be secured away from cats with high fences and attack dogs.

Plain toys in the calendar, cat nip and/or fluffier toys in the stocking.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 28/11/2017 02:24

Don't put Dreamies in more than 15 seconds before "opening".

"Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside!" - no cat cares, they swallow them whole.
Different flavours? - see above.
"Cats will do anything for Dreamies" - yup, including resorting to violence.

Webbox Lick-e-Lix is popular too. £1 or thereabouts for a box of 5.

Stockings for cats? Well absolutely! Dreamies, Lick-e-Lix, chase toys, that kind of thing. Christmas Elf collar if you fancy spending the day in A&E having your wounds treated 😂.

To be extra cruel our calendar is hanging out of the cats reach and it drives them crazy to smell the dreamiest pockets! We have a adult-adult-child-cat rotation on pockets. Any cat toys usually get taken by the toddler first..

MetallicBeige · 28/11/2017 09:22

My big cat would fight a lion (and win) for liver flavour Lik e Lix. I always have to make sure we are stocked up. I can’t bear to think of what would happen if they stopped making it. 😉
Small cat is a Dreamies fiend, he will find them, and he will eat them.

Stompythedinosaur · 28/11/2017 13:08

I have located Dreamies in Tescos so am sorted for the first few days. I shall put them in just prior to opening.

I shall look out for lik e lix in pets at home next week.

Grateful beyond measure to anyone taking my quandary seriously!

Felix Goody Bags are good too. Aldi and Wilko cat treats are not as yummy as dreamies but are cheaper. Aldi and Lidl cat pouches get a paws up from CharlieAlphaTango. Wilko lik-e-lix 85p.
Tesco has Dreamies cat stockings. If CharlieAlphaTango is vair good over next few weeks Mummy Xmas might oblige.

dailydance · 28/11/2017 13:45

Please don't feed your cat Whiskas. Very poor quality food

dailydance · 28/11/2017 13:47

I second dreamies. Mine also like Thrive freeze dried chicken breast pieces. (I think their preference is Dreamies though aka cat-crack Grin

Webbox sticks are also cat crack. You can get lick e lix in supermarkets too.

I'm a lazy thing so I bought my cat a purpose built calendar. It has catnip treats in it.
However, it was so pungent that he sniffed it out straight away and I had to hide it in my car.

Not actually sure how I'm going to dole him out his daily treat then expect him to forget about the rest Grin

beansbananas · 28/11/2017 13:55

I'd recommend thrive treats. My cats go bananas for them
