Good places for Christmas baubles?

When our kids got bigger, I started a tradition of us all going out one evening and picking a lovely new bauble each (and thus slowly getting rid of all the child-proof crappy ones). We went to John Lewis for a few years, and then last year all theirs seemed to be designed by someone on acid, and we ended up getting some gold initialled ones from Marks. I've had a quick look online at JL this year and wasn't grabbed. Any recommendations for good places to go? Have every chain imaginable within reach I think, plus could travel between London/Hampshire/Berkshire/Oxfordshire if there's a good local or independent place.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks John Lewis are on acid with their decorations. I haven't seen anything I like this year so haven't brought a new one. My DD did get the glittery doughnut from asda! My DCs are still young so hopefully will develop taste someday.
I think I may take them to the pottery place and use their fingerprints to make a snowman on a white star. I had this donea few years ago and they are beautiful and sentimental.

I think that there are some nice ones at JL this year, not many though. I've found a few white / red and white ones I've liked.

The bonkers tigers etc are really bizarre, however!

married I would happily have any of them on my tree, very pretty, and yes especially the one on the right - I love that crackle effect. Where were they from? (She asks, trying not to sound too Single White Female!)

@AtiaoftheJulii
It's ok, you can't find me and rob me of my baubles Grin
I got them in Heals, they're all By The Original Winters Tale. You can get them in Liberty or sometimes local good gift type shops, I have one near me called Jumping Bean which is where I first discovered them.

Here's some from previous years but I think the pear was actually from Homebase. They make me very happy Smile

@onadifferentplanet
This is the approach I've been taking with my own tree. I started around 7 years ago and 3 trips to NYC over the years have amassed quite a lot of special baubles. Each year I will buy something extra but with meaning. I also have baubles for each of my nephew's and my niece. When I left home I also asked Mum for a few of hers as they were part of my childhood memories including one my aunt had handmade. Like many others on here have stated, the lesser thought of places will often have different more unique baubles.

Liberty is irritating me with its change to trinket type stuff and tackiness over beautiful baubles.

Some got smashed argh so I might need to go back again and see if there’s anything good

Hope they revert next year

Tbh I have been disappointed with Liberty for several years. Every year I swear I will buy no more but got tempted by early discounts in the White Company. Plus some lovely antique looking bells in Morrisons of all places.

Of course, you mentioned them earlier and I've already been ogling them!

There was another 'onion' shaped one in Heals with white feathers inside, someone just beat me to the last one!
We had a mock fight over it but she clearly has taste too so I can't complain Grin

Here's a couple of my favourites - and my red spotted bird (not very classy but a personal fave)

The bird with the feather tail is one of the nicest ones I own.

Willis

slimyslitheryslug · 08/12/2017 17:53

Not "Willis" (stupid spellcheck) but Wilko's. Feel as though I am somewhat lowering the tone by suggesting it though

Did our tree yesterday & this is a (not great) photo of one of the baubles I bought in Liberty many years ago & have not seen anything as nice since.
