What do I need from Lidl?

I live nowhere near a Lidl but tomorrow I will be passing one. I recall that lots of people say how good the food/drinks are.

So what should be on my list? I’m excited (sad) as I will be momentarily childfree and can actually browse!

Lebkuchen and pfeffernusse , chocolate marzipan bars, they also usually have smoked salmon at a good price too

Everything!! I buy port and the cheeses are great.

The individual gratins in the freezer section (come In a white box pack of four) and the noisettes of potatoes.

MissWitch · 27/11/2017 23:04

Their tins of salted almonds. They’re 2 for £4 in my lidl at the moment.

Cakescakescakes · 27/11/2017 23:05

They have some really excellent and reasonably priced wooden toys in at the minute.

Haudyerwheesht · 27/11/2017 23:24

What a well timed thread - I'm passing one tomorrow too! Anyone know of any good things for school snacks / lunches?

badbadhusky · 27/11/2017 23:33

Another vote for mini stollen bites. Yum!

If they’ve sold out of their pannetone, that would be a good thing - I have bought and demolished 2 already. I’m the only person in our house that likes it. Makes fantastic French toast with a sprinkle of cinnamon in the eggy mix, as well as fab B&B pudding.

My kids say their pancetta cubes make for the best carbonara.

The giant pain au chocolat from the bakery are good too.

Take care with the fruit & veg - I have had rancid, mouldy veg too many times to rely on Lidl for veg any more.

F

Pearlsaringer · 27/11/2017 23:51

Yes I’d agree on the veg, it doesn’t keep well as it’s sold European style at the peak of freshness with not much storage time. If on offer it’s sometimes worth the risk though.

Littlelambpeep · 27/11/2017 23:54

haud I but the multipacks of popcorn and put into tubberware. Also they sell nice cheese and oatcakes. Squeezy yoghurt pouches

Back from Lidl with an obscene amount of Christmas nibbles. No actual meals but if we get snowed in for a month we won’t starve!! Thanks for all the tips.

I was just coming on here to tell you to just buy everything. All of it. It’s bloody amazing!!

Also their pandoro makes AMAZING bread and butter pudding. Also toasted. Actually it’s just THE SHIT.

Wormwoodm · 28/11/2017 17:11

Christmas fudge, stollen bites, Florentines and baklava!

Yogagirl123 · 28/11/2017 17:19

Mini marzipan stollen, are dangerous OP, once you open them they disappear! Lidl Knightsbridge Gold teabags are fab too.

GloriousGomez · 28/11/2017 17:22

Not Xmas specific but the smoothies were disgusting and we threw them straight down the drain

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 28/11/2017 18:04

Think the veg totally depends on the store. We live between 2 Lidl’s and both have fantastic veg. But we also live near 2 Aldi’s. One is in a deprived area and their veg is awful. If I drive the other way into a naive town, the Aldi veg is good.

KarenW · 28/11/2017 18:27

Wine!

Gavi 88/100 score £5.49 Excellent
Albarino Rias Baxas 86/100 £5.99 Yummy with anything or on its own
Visigodo Rueda 87/100 £4.99 Yummy with turkey

These are just the ones I have tried. Look on The Drinker website/app for more recommendations. Happy shopping, accidentally drop some gingerbread iced biscuits in your trolley, they wont make it home!

hollygolipo · 28/11/2017 19:59

Their macaroons are luffly
