Take a toy back and buy again cheaper?

Hi I've never done this. The toy was £60 and to be honest isn't worth it.

It's now £35 and on stock.

The box is huge. I don't drive so I'd need a lift with my mum and so it would be hard to hide it from my kids.

I suppose it depends if £25 is worth it. I work part time. Husband works away so £25 is a lot to us but is it just too much faffing?

Hmm I possibly would OP!
I wouldn't for a few quid but £25 is a lot, could buy a few other bits for that Smile

Definitely do it. To save you taking the old one back just buy a new one then return it straight away with the older receipt that has the higher price on it. Means you don’t need to sneak it out the house.

But possibly walk out of the shop with the box and have a coffee before returning the new box with old receipt. There' s absolutely no reason why you shouldn't do this, but ELC once told me I couldn't! They actually wanted me to go back to my house and get the other - identical - one, and return that. Even though there was no way they could know. They eventually relented...

It depends on how close you are to the shop. I have done this with bedding I bought recently and a week later it was 30% off. I bought the new one and returned the old one in the same transaction, the cashier commented is that not the same one and I said yes but cheaper. I wouldn’t bother going for a coffee etc, just do it.
I wouldn’t have done it if it had been a major journey to take it back

NamasteNiki · 26/11/2017 16:57

Buy a new one and return it with the old receipt and keep the old one in the house.

Leave with it and take it back an hour later saying your dh just told you he already ordered one.

Redglitter · 26/11/2017 16:57

Don't a lot of places only refund you the sale price though?

zoomer455 · 26/11/2017 17:14

I never ever take anything back. I'm not sure I dare do it all in the same day lol

If you dont have a receipt.

Notsooriginalwerther · 26/11/2017 17:21

Could you potentially buy the same item on sale online then take the original back to the store and get the refund? I used to work in retail and sometimes we couldn’t accept the new item as return for old receipt because the barcodes were different or something strang like that? They should refund you at the price you paid initially.

bimbobaggins · 26/11/2017 17:25

If you weren’t going to do it all in the one day never mind the one transaction then I wouldn’t bother. Seriously, shops get this all the time.
Never mind all the faffing around. If you have the original receipt just return the original product. And if they ask just say it’s cheaper

zoomer455 · 26/11/2017 18:05

Ive just looked on my e receipt and I got it in the 3 for 2 so I guess I'd have to take everything back so wouldn't be worth it.

We bought a new tent earlier in the year. A week later it went in the same for £50 cheaper. I phoned them and they agreed to refund the difference if I went back with just the receipt. No need to take the massive tent back. Can you phone them and ask if they would be willing to do this?

NamasteNiki · 26/11/2017 23:17

If you got it on 3 for 2 then it didnt cost you £60.

Add up how much all 3 toys should have cost you individually and then compare it to what you actually paid getting one free. You may not actually make any saving by taking it back.

zoomer455 · 27/11/2017 07:06

Yea thanks I didn't realise. Saying that the free toy I actually didn't want so I would have preferred to swap. The main point is I didn't want to spend £60 on one toy for a five year old and it's definitely not worth it. £35 seems ok. Oh well I guess that's life.

If you didn’t want to spend £60 on one toy why did you? Hmm lesson learnt there don’t pay out for anything non essential if you don’t think it’s worth it!

LIZS · 27/11/2017 07:09

If you got it on 3 for 2 you didn't spend £60 in the first place.

zoomer455 · 27/11/2017 07:10

I know. I've bought that many things that I didn't realise I had bought it in the 3 for 2.

I don't know why I bought it I just knew she would love it.

OP posts:
zoomer455 · 27/11/2017 07:13

I've just worked it out. I still ended up paying more than than what I would if I had taken it back for a refund.
