Family Board Games suitable for 6yo with a bit of help

What board games would be good for a 6yo? She's quite bright and strategic, and enjoys staying up a bit after her toddler sister has gone to bed to do something a bit grown up with the adults, so I'm thinking of things that are actually fun for adults to play but she could join in with, even if it needed a bit of help, might be better than something directly targeted at her age-group. She's enjoyed Splendor and Dobble and dh and I like Ticket to Ride and Carcossone, which I think have junior versions but maybe adapting the grown up ones would be better? All suggestions welcome as we don't have many.

My 6 year old enjoys connect 4, guess who, monopoly junior, pop to the shops, top trumps and disney headbanz. For christmas ive got her charades, magic tooth fairy game and disney guess the scene.

Zombie run (card game) and labyrinth (board game ).

Frustration is a hit int this house. DH says he hates it but that's cos me and dd end up ganging up on him. But it's a fun family game.

We've also bought Rummicub this Xmas. There is a junior one but it was more expensive and the only difference was how high the numbers went. So we got the adult one and can either team up or take higher numbers out

Family Trivial pursuit is brilliant! Our 8 year old and 6 year old love it. We adapt the questions if the topics are completely outside their frame of reference but they surprise us with what they do know.

Wow, loads of options. Family trivial pursuit might kill two birds with one stone as she loves doing quizzes. Thanks everyone

Anything by Think Fun - I like their one player games as you can take turns and encourage each other.

tarheelbaby · 26/11/2017 18:09

Bananagrams! Similar to scrabble but players all play their letter tiles at the same time - no agonising wait whilst each player dithers/calculates - and the challenge is simply to use up all your letters by making linked words so you can make words as long/big or not as you are able. The letters come in a cute banana-shaped bag and the rules are full of terrible banana puns.
We also enjoy clue-do, uno (very portable) monopoly (great for maths) and labyrinth.

Pengoloo, Quirkle

Perfect for a bright 6 year old.

EasilyDistracted77 · 26/11/2017 23:02

Was going to suggest Dobble, but somebody else beat me to it! Really simple concept, but great for all ages.

I am so excited someone mentioned the Great Game of Britain! I had assumed that was long since mothballed. I have just bought it for my sibling in memory of all the fraught games we played as kids in the 80s blockading each other on Egg and sending each other to John O'Groats Grin

Brandnewstart · 27/11/2017 11:31

Quirkle is fab if she likes strategy. Quirkle cubes is a bit more fun and takes less time. It's a bit like dominoes and is good for helping her count as you count up the points.

Brandnewstart · 27/11/2017 11:32

I've also been looking for Downfall but the new version hasn't had good reviews. We have the travel version but lots of the counters are mining Sad.

AlbusPercival · 27/11/2017 11:38

Hey that's my fish is awesome.

Rules are easy to learn. Strategy and thinking ahead very important to make sure your penguin isn't stuck on an iceberg with no fish.

It's relatively cheap for a proper board game too.

Extra bonus is it actually works well with just 2 if someone needs to toddler wrangle.

Also cute penguin figurines!
