Hi!

My niece absolutely LOVES dog, completely mad about them, though her family doesn't have one of their own and can't at the moment.

Anyone bought any fantastic dog themed presents they could share? Smile

Thank you!

Sponsor a guide dog?

Floralnomad · 24/11/2017 13:06

What about sponsoring a dog with the dogs trust in her name , you get letters from the dog and if you find one local to where they live she could visit . You could combine it with a soft toy that looks similar to the sponsored dog .

Would she enjoy Crufts tickets or would it be torture as she can't have one?

Evelynismyspyname · 24/11/2017 13:11

Depends on her age. My dd liked that ancient puppy patrol series when she was 8 or 9. There are about eleventy billion books and you can still get them, though you have to hunt about.

BlackRod6 · 24/11/2017 13:12

She is 9, sorry!

My DD (nearly 8) has asked Santa for Snuggles (a little live puppy) which is a puppy that makes noises, breathes etc, but is still soft and able to be carried around.

BlackRod6 · 24/11/2017 13:13

I think she has a robot dog. Crufts could be good - is there much opportunity to go round and stroke them (sorry, I've never been!) or do you just watch the events from seating?

It was £35 though... What's your budget?

Budget in total for presents is about £30/40

She would love the snugly toy but her parents might not love me - her room is full of them!

Never been to Crufts. I have heard of Discover Dogs at Crufts. Get to meet dogs of different breeds.
We are hoping to make it this year (wolfiepup qualified) if she fancies meeting a wolfhound!! Grin

Stompythedinosaur · 24/11/2017 13:33

How about a homemade voucher for you to take her walking dogs for a dog shelter?

I've done this with a number of kids I've worked with and it's always gone down well.

BeastOfCraggyIsland · 24/11/2017 13:35

Crufts is amazing, there are literally dogs everywhere. The Discover Dogs section has a stand for every recognised breed manned (or dogged Grin) by friendly dogs and their owners who are there to meet and greet everyone. It's fantastic.

Wolfiefan · 24/11/2017 13:35

Our local shelter makes you attend a training day for this.
OP just a thought. Not sure this would help but have they heard of the cinnamon trust? A charity where you can register to walk dogs for elderly or unwell people. You can walk as often or little as you want.

rightsaidfrederickII · 24/11/2017 16:41

Membership to Borrow My Doggy, and then take her out walking with someone else's dogs?

Bonelessbanquet · 25/11/2017 00:59

There is a pair of lovely sausage dog slippers in next

Orangebird69 · 25/11/2017 01:10

Sponsor a dog? I sponsored a guide dog puppy for my niece for 4 years. Little photos, updates etc. It was really lovely and she was so proud of herself 😁.

I'd not do the Crufts thing personally. I can't reconcile with their ethics/breed standards and wouldn't want to educate any young dog lover that Crufts is any kind of benchmark.

somanyusernames · 26/11/2017 19:46

Another vote for borrowmydoggy - we have a if dog, but we walked a friend’s westie a few times and dd loved her - plenty of dog owners that could do with a bit of extra attention for their dog.

DeepPileTinsel · 26/11/2017 19:46

Playmobil do lots of sets of families of dogs - if she has a particular breed she likes they might have it.

Like this sort of thing? www.amazon.co.uk/Playmobil-5213-Figure-Set-Border/dp/B006UAFY0K/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=playmobil+dog&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1511725524&sr=8-8

*Disclaimer - I have no idea what 9 year olds like. I'm 28 and would like that though Xmas Grin

Guide to dog types? My dh coins t have a dog growing up, and someone bought him the observer book of dogs - he spent many happy hours planning the type of dog he’d have when he was grown up, and he did - he was 27 when he got his dog.
