Which of these is nicer?

Further to my handbag thread where everyone was very helpful, I am now trying to decide between these two bags for my best friend.
She's in her late 20s and has a professional job. I like the blue... but not sure if that's just my love of highly patterned things swaying me.
Which would you prefer to receive? She's been such a good friend this year so I want to get her something lovely.

I LOVE the stripey canvas bag hardknocklife posted a photo of.

Chrys2017 · 20/11/2017 22:50

Neither one looks 'professional' and both are way too small for a casual bag for someone with a baby.

Chrys2017 · 20/11/2017 22:55

p.s. Nice handbags are actually quite expensive. If it were me I'd go for a smaller, more affordable option like a purse or makeup bag, or, if your friend also likes quirky patterned stuff these guys have a nice range of tapestry holdall-type bags that aren't too expensive and would probably be handy with a baby...

Chrys2017 · 20/11/2017 22:59

...there's also a slightly smaller one

Yeah I know. I was hoping I'd get something with £50-£60

They are both lovely but also quite 'out there' are you sure she would like both?

Your gift sounds very generous and you're so kind to think so much about it, just want you to get it right x

Chrys2017 · 20/11/2017 23:44

With a budget of £50–£60 I'd go for a purse. Radley do nice ones and have some 'quirky' designs if that's what you like (and they have a sale on at the moment)!

The Zara city bag is much nicer.

Shen0102 · 21/11/2017 06:06

Most of the patterns in the previous pics especially the first 2 don't look too nice. Plain screams elegance if you get the right shape for the occasion she'll be using it for. For your budget I'd go to tkmaxx and pick up a nice elegant designer at that price. Also you'll see that most handbags in tkmaxx won't have ridiculous patterns because that's what elegance is all about.

whimsical1975 · 21/11/2017 10:04

So, my opinion... I'm all for colour and patterns on my bags and don't personally like brown, however, I much prefer the style of the brown to the style of the patterned. The style of the patterned bag seems a bit "old" for a 20-somthing.

But some of the other pics posted are also not great runs to hide

Some nice bags in debenhams sale

Trying to post pics of the style of bag I think suits a young mom who has lots to carry!

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 21/11/2017 10:14

Neither are to my taste tbh but if I had to choose I'd go with the brown one. You know your friend best though!

If she's recently had a baby is she on maternity leave? If so I'd probably skip structured and go for something on the slightly more casual side.

whimsical1975 · 21/11/2017 10:16

I don't know about prices or where to buy but for a young, fresh, fun look for a young mom with a lot of baby stuff, this is definitely the kind of thing I'd choose...

Take a look at Tk maxx. I just bought a lovely Ospey bag for £60 including delivery.

whimsical1975 · 21/11/2017 10:21

and these... I realise these are more of a "beach bag" style but they're my favourite style of bag with young children - and who wouldn't have a great day with so much prettiness over their shoulder Grin

The city bag from Zara is gorgeous!

WaitingForSunday17 · 21/11/2017 11:36

She's just gone back to work...

Do people like the Zara city bag?
I will have a look at tk maxx now!

Thanks everyone!

Don't get on of the larger canvas ones, it will become the new default baby bag. It will get slowly filled with nappies and toys and bibs.

I actually liked the originisl brown one. Or NapQueens burgundy one

WaitingForSunday17 · 21/11/2017 11:42

I could very much see her with the £70 one...

ijustwannadance · 21/11/2017 11:44

Sorry op but I think both those bags are hideous.

I might just have to get myself that lovely green Zara one though.

ijustwannadance · 21/11/2017 11:46

I also think that handbags are quite a personal thing and you seem to be picking what you want more than what your friend might use/like.

Could you go shopping with her instead?
