Last year they changed it to a fudge one,

I got a nectar leaflet through the post today and the new one is featured on there . .........the new one is chocolate and cream (as in white cream not chocolate cream. More like a roulade Not my thing at all. Hope the Tesco Finest one is still the same.

I liked the Sainsburys one the way it was before last year.

How annoying. We love Yule Log. It's the only Christmas food item that my children show any interest in. Having tried them all Sainsbury's was easily the best, Asda finest the worst. Are you sure they aren't doing two kinds of Yule log this year? As I know Tesco do a fresh cream roulade type one AND a finest chocolate fudge type one.

The one in the Aldi Christmas booklet this year looks good, chocolate flavoured sponge/chocolate buttercream covered with milk chocolate and Belgian milk chocolate fudge icing.
They also have a chocolate and praline log with a little chocolate robin on top which looks adorable.

M and S for a nice chocolate one which has been the same for years!

Don't know if you have a upmarket bakery near by but you could try ordering one with them. I do this and its amazing its normaly around £12.00 serves 8.

Aldi one got top marks in the Jamie Oliver magazine taste test.

Waitrose have done a nice chocolate sponge pud for a few years now (with chocolate curls and glitter). Better than Heston why-bother-hiding-the-stupid-orange pud.

My mother makes one every year - it's been my favourite ever since I can remember and she uses a chocolate/nut/cherry etc fridge cake recipe with lashings of brandy.

Can highly recommend it - although I'm not sure I'd give it to a 5 yr old these days... it always goes very quickly when she has visitors - I am lucky and she makes one just for me Grin

MeMyElfandI · 19/11/2017 16:05

Bunbunny your Mum's Christmas log sound delicious, do you have the recipe?

bunbunny · 19/11/2017 19:14

MemyelfandI I'll dig it out for you - I've got it in the depths of my recipe collection as I haven't needed to make it for a while - but mum is getting old so will need to start making my own soon Grin

HelenaDove · 19/11/2017 19:14

Ms Game according to my nectar leaflet its available from 8th December so it does sound like their main one and the price has gone up. £7.

Has anyone on here ever tried the Iceland Luxury one?

Thanks BunBunny that would be great.

Both my parents have passed away now but I still remember all the great times we had at Christmas and making the cake and trying to do the same with my DD. Like most kids she likes making the Christmas cake but won't eat it (except the icing Smile ) so I think if we make a chocolate log as well that will go down a treat.

Love a yule log

elQuintoConyo · 20/11/2017 08:06

Ahhh yule logs. They say 'Christmas' to me more than Christmas cake Blush

I'd also love to try your mum's recipe bunny . I'm in Spain, yule logs are rubbish here. I could start a Spanish trend of making 'proper' yule logs!

My son always brings an Asda one to us, they've always been great value
