Menstrual cup for charity Christmas box?

Odd question. I am putting together a Christmas box for a teenage girl as part of a charity campaign. I was thinking of including a menstrual cup (among other things). You hear about girls who skip school because of a lack of sanitary products. But I have to admit it’s hardly going to make someone’s eyes light up with excitement. What do you all think?

I was thinking about it just yesterday. I’m a big fan of mooncups but they are tricky at forst. Would a teenager always remember to remove it? Bot sure what the answer is #helpful

Bearbehind · 18/11/2017 19:05

I can't imagine a young girl being anything other than horrified to have to open sanitary products as Christmas presents.

VikingVolva · 18/11/2017 19:08

Would you put in tampons/towels? Or would you think that's a bit too utilitarian? Have you ever given sanpro to a non-charity case? Would you be grateful to receive an item if you didn't actually use that type of product?

If you want to include practical, how about going for toiletries, tights, socks, warm gloves, stationery and a gift card?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 18/11/2017 19:12

It’s a christmas gift so actually I wouldn't put it in.

NannyR · 18/11/2017 19:15

Not as a Christmas present, no. I'm all for reusable sanitary pads and cups but I would hate to receive one as a gift, never mind a teenage girl.

SingaporeSlinky · 18/11/2017 19:15

I would not want sanitary products to open at Christmas. I'd stick to nice toiletries, you don't want to embarrass the poor girl.

AllTheWittyNamesAreGone · 18/11/2017 19:16

No, I'd be mortified if I were teenage

elQuintoConyo · 18/11/2017 19:17

Jesus Cristo, no.

I was just about getting the hang of tampons as a teen, i got a mooncup at 35 and even then it was daunting using it for the first few months.

And i think it is a pretty crap present for Christmas. Christmas should be about treats: happy, glittery, fun, a bit indulgent etc.

JaimesGoldenHand · 18/11/2017 19:32

Was going to do some glittery stuff as well. But I take the point about opening in front of people - I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll leave it out. Thanks all.

Your good intentions were there Grin

Jinglebells99 · 19/11/2017 22:00

I have a teen girl and she would be horrified. A lot of teens struggle to use tampons let alone a moon cup. I would chose things like nail varnish, stationery, gloves, hat from somewhere like accessorize, sweets, chocolate, magazine.

KC225 · 20/11/2017 02:47

A good idea in theory but imagine if you are a teenage girl opening it in front of others, you would utterly mortified.

SquirrelTail · 20/11/2017 02:48

It's a nice idea but I'm not sure this would be suitable as a Christmas present.

SuperBeagle · 20/11/2017 02:57

It's inappropriate for a Christmas gift.

Aside from that, I think a menstrual cup is a bit adventurous for most teenagers. I have no inclination to use one at 33, so certainly wouldn't have considered it as a teenager. Grin

CarrotVan · 20/11/2017 08:25

Not all women are willing/able to use tampons or menstrual cups so it's usually better to donate pads to charities/food banks

But not as a gift!

ahhhsalmonskinroll · 20/11/2017 08:27

You could possibly put in Modibod underwear (basically period underwear) that looks nice. But yeah, she might not want to open that in front of people. Plus you’d need to buy a few pairs and it’s quite pricey (though worth it).

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 20/11/2017 08:40

I don't think anything period related is suitable as a gift for any teen let alone one you don't know. I'm sure Op is very well meaning but unless the charity campaign is actually about providing sanitary wear then it's a really bad idea.

Be aware too that even though you might make up a "hamper", generally these will be checked by the charity to ensure there's nothing inappropriate in there or possibly to redistribute items if they need to even out some of the gifts. I think these are things that would most likely be removed.

DownTheChimney · 20/11/2017 09:46

oooh no

Frege · 20/11/2017 11:10

Definitely not. Don't put anything period-related in the gift- it's completely inappropriate.

Donating sanitary products to food banks is a great idea.
