Gifts for 19 yr old son???

Thisandthat2017 · 17/11/2017 10:42

I have nearly everyone else sorted but am totally stuck with my 19 yr old son! He has a well paid job so buys everything he needs and wants himself. If I tell you a little about him please can you give me some ideas!?!?

He is in IT so spends a lot of time at his desk (He has a technology allowance so has all he needs in that department).
He works from home mainly but does commute in to London 2/3 times a month. He quite frequently travels with work and stays overnight.
He loves Harry Potter
He has a car
He has recently discovered the nightlife his uni friends are living!

Any ideas??

When I was in uni, only thing I appreciated from my parents was money, still good to have extra, even I had part time jobs!

Thisandthat2017 · 17/11/2017 11:21

That's the thing, he isn't at uni. He has a good job and no real outgoings so he has more money than me! The other two have lots of little gifts to open plus a main one. I would like to do the same for him.

What about a smart washbag with a few things inside? Think I got DH's nice woollen one from Asos. Or a good backpack for commuting e.g. Samsonite or something else with lots of pockets and good back support. Might get some good deals on black Friday. Or a voucher for ticketmaster so could use for gig/festival/sports?

Insulated mug for work?
Posh toiletries?
Food? Chocolate or gourmet crisps?
Silly novelty item like a whoppee cushion?
Nice beer?
DVD or box set?
Pants/ gloves/ socks/PJs?

hufflypuff95 · 17/11/2017 11:48

Has he got his own copies of the Harry Potter books/dvd’s?
There’s also the spin-off franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them out now. There’s a DVD and screenplay for that if he hasn’t got them already.

Harry Potter Studio Tour Tickets could be an idea, even if he’s been once it’s quite big so can easily go again and have a good time.

If he is really into Harry Potter you could get a Geekgear subscription box, they’re about £25 and you get a selection of HP themed things. Or there is a wearable box where you get 4 t-shirts for around the same price.

Does he need anything for his work space, like a new office chair?Fitness/sleep tracker?

Small gift ideas; overnight bag, bottle of alcohol – whiskey/vodka/spirit, sweets – liqueurs or childhood favourites – good value jars of sweets at wilko, shirts, novelty tshirt, pyjamas, aftershave, small planner 2018 for work, men’s razor gift set, wallet, any favourite skincare/hair products?, earphones/headphones, USB memory stick, alarm clock, nice mug, electric toothbrush, Amazon echo dot (some sort of speaker thing)

I'm getting my 23 year old son a day's rally driving experience, because I think it will be good for his general driving ability! Also, for another one, a coffee and classic book subscription (from NOTHS), so there will be coffee and a book delivered once a month.

Lots of great ideas. Thank you 😀

The Harry Potter - History of Magic book that ties in with the British library exhibition looks great. Can you tell him what you are getting him so he doesn't buy it himself?

reluctantbrit · 17/11/2017 17:55

Does he travel with a laptop? A decent backpack? I got DH a Samsonite one last year, around 60 quid but big enough to also store lots of other things and very comfortable to carry I have been told.

A decent washbag,
a Grit-it to store all chargers/USB sticks?
Decent wallet?

chocdog · 17/11/2017 17:59

Off topic, but I'm so impressed that he has a well-paid job at 19. Good for him.

TheRollingCrone · 17/11/2017 18:03

I,ve just ordered my brother a hat (wool Fedora) from Christys Hats - they do every sort including "peaky blinders". There is just not enough hat wearing these days Grin

Thisandthat2017 · 17/11/2017 18:38

I bought him a rucksack 2 years back - it was about £80 in black Friday sale but was worth every penny.

The HP book is a great idea. If he buys it for himself my daughter will be happy with a copy 😊 We actually live right next to the studios and he has been a couple of times. He much prefers Universal and is going back there in April!

I bought him an ultimate driving experience for his 16th and he loved it!!! That has given me the idea to book him an advanced driving course. Will hopefully make him safer on the road and bring down his insurance 🤞

If he spends a lot of time with uni friends maybe he could do with some warm PJs/jumpers so he doesn't freeze when he visits them?

A beer fridge/man cave decorations if he's living at home?

A few shirts to go out in? Even tho he's an adult with regular income I'm sure he forgets to buy decent underwear socks? Or maybe a nice watch?

There's plenty of Harry Potter novelty bits in primark.

Is he into festivalling? If so camping gear?

Tickets to a concert?

What about Harry Potter lego? Men never seem to grow out of lego and apparently it's a better investment than gold!

Or perhaps molton brown set

Small bluetooth speaker for travel or a new weekend bag?

hungryradish · 17/11/2017 21:02

Your sons doing really well! So young with such a good job. Well done him :)

Following as I need help with 19 year old brother. He's said he'd like a grey hoodie & I was thinking maybe aftershave?

goose1964 · 17/11/2017 22:42

Is he into gaming? If so a gaming chair may be appreciated

Thisandthat2017 · 17/11/2017 23:08

He is into gaming and funnily enough he took delivery of a new chair yesterday. Which he told me he built at 1am this morning, luckily he doesn't live with me!

I have asked him not to buy himself anything but put it on a list for Xmas but he says if he needs something then he is just going to get it. I think he just sees it as being independent.

I have had a few good ideas from here though. Thank you.
