Both my boys want football shirts this morning. The proper offical ones seem to be 50 each! Is there a way of getting last season's or then cheaper? Will they realise they are not the newest ones? Dc are 8 so spending 50 on something that will last 6 months seems a lot!

My son's team had discounts in their club shop on Black Friday last year, subscribe to the emails to get notifications.

Zampa · 17/11/2017 07:12

Don't get last season's - they'll know!

Have you tried Sports Direct (assuming you're after a Premier club)? They're about half the price of the official club shops.

Alternatively, could you get other club themed clothing, rather than the actual shirts?

Blackandpurple · 17/11/2017 07:14

Or get a training top. Usually cheaper.

Notreallyarsed · 17/11/2017 07:16

8 yos will know if it’s last seasons strip (I’ve got 3 football fans at home plus DP because I don’t wear football tops so it’s bloody expensive).
Does the club you’re after have an online shop? Sometimes you can get codes for discounts. I wouldn’t recommend Sports Direct their stuff is often below par quality and I resent lining Mike Ashley’s pockets while he treats his staff appallingly (but that’s my issue, just because I can’t stand the man)

Man U have 20% off at the min .... I feel your pain OP, my SS will only wear footie tops ! The plus is the wash/wear great and dry in record time do you only need a few x

mailfuckoff · 17/11/2017 07:46

Thanks for your comments.
I have one who wants the man u away kit so not in sale and one who wants Tottenham. The Tottenham one could be a sweater or something as that child can't actually play football due to his condition so just wants to look cool.

Any good OP? It’s £25 as opposed to £50

mailfuckoff · 17/11/2017 07:51

notreallyarsed that's a much better plan, thanks . I am rubbish at this football stuff!

My 2 big support Spurs and kids shirts are definitely (lots) cheaper in Sports Direct.

Dixiestampsagain · 17/11/2017 11:43

2 kids, that is!!

iseenodust · 17/11/2017 11:47

Tottenham official by the look of it

Notreallyarsed · 17/11/2017 11:51

@mailfuckoff I quite like it despite none of our house following the premiership (we’re Celtic)
Strips are mega expensive and clubs take the piss releasing so many!

Oblomov17 · 17/11/2017 11:57

Spurs fans here and definitely recommend hoodie, training top, picture attached and sports direct.

Honestly I see a kit as very good value for money.
My son gets a new one every year on his birthday, it usually racks up at £70-80 but he lives in it!
In the summer it's the shorts and t-shirt, in the winter he wears a skin underneath and a hoodie over top if really cold!
He also still wears any season that still fits so at the moment he has the 2017, 2016 and 2015. He mainly wears the 17 but will happily wear the others if it's in the wash.
I must have saved a fortune on other clothes over the years!!!

Frege · 17/11/2017 12:48

Football shirts are a racket- clubs exploiting the fans. However, like the poster above, I buy them and they end up reasonable value in terms of cost-per-wear as my son would always choose to wear a football shirt over anything else (which I hate, but that's another thread Grin )

Oblomov17 · 17/11/2017 13:31

Likewise. Yes expensive, but my 2 live in theirs, so cost effective.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 17/11/2017 13:34

Agree about cost/use, DS has two, last years and one from about three years ago, they are both worn at least twice a week, are dry enough to wear straight from the washing machine and still both look as good as new. No ironing needed either.

Dixiestampsagain · 17/11/2017 15:10

I agree with previous posters- they are very expensive but it’s pretty much as DS wears now, so cost ‘per wear’ is tiny!!

Dixiestampsagain · 17/11/2017 15:13

Ps The current Tottenham shirts are £36.

rcit · 17/11/2017 15:15

At 8 you can buy a football shirt and get 3+ years out of it.

rcit · 17/11/2017 15:16

Inmeant buy it big

36plusandtrying · 17/11/2017 19:33

Agree with posters about cost per wear .... highly recommend 'anthem jacket'/hoodie SS has the Madrid one and he loves it .... and it looks pretty smart (stupidly we did buy him the white one, but it takes a hammering in the machine after being soaked in vanish) I took advantage of the 20% off Man U and bought SS the home kit (after some wine ) happy shopping !
