Something different - Xmas hotel break

So it transpires that we will pretty much be on our own over Xmas (1st time in 20 years and quite excited at the prospect!)

Rather than stay at home am wondering about possibility of going away for a few days to a decent family friendly hotel.

Am I too late? Is it likely to be prohibitively expensive and where could we do both the DCs and DH & I would enjoy?

Did look at Centre Parcs but £1700 before food is just Shock

Any recommendations gratefully received.

Where abouts?

Don’t want to be the damp squib , but

My DH used to be a hotel manager , and found that the people who stay in hotels at Christmas are usually the ones that are so awful they never get invited anywhere

Not saying that’s you ( we love it being just us 4 at Christmas, now he’s changed job ) just be aware

I suspect you’ve left it way too late. We generally sort out where we will be for Xmas in March/April.

My sister and three kids stayed in a large thermally insulated glamping pod with a log-burner and hot tub on a farm one Christmas. They cooked Christmas dinner on a fire and sang carols with other campers! I can find out where it was if you're interested?

Could you do a little European break? The Latin counteries have all the decorations up but don't celebrate till Jan. No crowds or bonkers consumerism.
A breath of seasonal fresh air.

Ricekrispie that sounds amazing! I would love something like that for the time between Christmas and new year.

I would be interested, Ricekrispie!

It’s not too late to book somewhere.

It is too late to book somewhere really nice. They will have been booked up ages ago.

Ricekrispie22 · 16/11/2017 20:42

It was Hill Farm and Orchard in Buckinghamshire that she stayed at. She has said that if they're booked, try Humble Bee Farm, Herding Hill or Little White Alice, as they're all other glamping farms that she's been too and highly recommends and she assures me are all heated and all have hot tubs. My sis loves camping but is a single mum with three fairly young kids, so can't face putting tents up, rolling up sleeping bags and lighting fires by herself, and that's why she glamps.
