Recommend an amazing 'keepsake' children's book

Every year I like to buy the kids a special book or two. Looking for new suggestions.

Previous years I have got Robert Saduba Pop-up books or a really nice encyclopedia or lift-the-flap for DD2

Last year I got Pierre The Maze Detective which was lovely.

Tempted by Illustrated Harry Potter but have yet to make DD1 a fan! Was considering Graeme Base...

I’ve done those books in the past that you get your child’s name put into the story. Can’t remember the company I used but they were read for years!!

I always wanted The Jolly Postman. My mum finally got it for me last Christmas (I'm 32).

We have the jolly postman and the Christmas version, they are lovely books.

You can't plan it, it happens. We have a ritual now since 2000. They get a Pokemon annual every year. They are 22 and 19! A Collection of Milligan, A book about a Penguin, a book about the moon, the beach and hot buttered toast. None of the ones carefully chosen - not the compendium of Dahl or Narnia or the Richard Scarrys. The Dr zeuss's come close.

What about the Nutcracker and Night before Christmas - lovely pop up versions on amazon.

We've just got DS the Wonderbly Golden Ticket book. It's one of those that uses their name to drive the story. It looks lovely.

I have a beautiful sterling illustrated classic copy of the wind in the willows which is a lovely book to keep forever.

The Velveteen Rabbit - I was bought this when I was younger and almost 30 years later it's still my most treasured book

Maybe a bit young for a 9 year old but the personalised Lost My Name books are lovely.

There's now a willy wonka book from the lost my name folk. Don't have it but looks good. Could be good for your 5 year old.

Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker

I had a hardback copy of all the Paddington bear stories in one book when I was little and I loved it.

Also a book of fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen. Enid Blyton series are always enjoyable too. I loved the Mallory Towers and St Clare series.

For the 9 yr old how about some of the 'Ology' books - beautifully produced with little envelopes and pull out and pop ups and feathers and ribbons etc inside them. So gorgeous to look at and play with.

Agree the velveteen rabbit is lovely - my sister gave beautiful hardback copies to all children at her wedding (and I read an exert during the church service).
The night before Christmas is always in our Christmas Eve box every year.

They're both beautiful books.

I got DS a really beautiful edition of Peter Pan by Harper Collins Design Classics. Was only about £20 from Amazon and it’s stunning. Think they had some others in the range, maybe Jungle Book although cant remember which others.

Which is obviously still quite expensive but it looks similar to a Folio Society edition and they’re really expensive.

There's a beautiful Folio edition of Ballet Shoes which is my go to christening gift. It was my absolute favourite as a child, perfect for the 9yo I think x

I still have my very beautiful, hardback illustrated edition of The Secret Garden from when I was seven. What a lovely idea for a gift OP.

I got dd ‘the fox and the star’ it’s a lovely book. Fab illustrations.

Also pop up fairy books. I’ve bought the pop up book of Shakespeare from amazon, gives history of Shakespeare and all about his plays etc. Very detailed and just reduced to £10 Amazon 😊

If they like Winnie the Pooh, you can get those with the child's name and details in the story. I got one for a baby once, was a but stumped when the website asked for name of best friend.
