I've broken the ipad. DS loved it. Is there a very cheap alternative to get him?

Ds (5)is on autistic spectrum. He uses the ipad to calm himself if hes stressed as he can wear his headphones and block things out.
He has iplayer, netflix and some lego games on it.
I'm totally clueless but I've also completely broken the ipad. Can kindles etc be used for this?
I was thinking around £40 for a replacement. Is it at all possible?

I agree Kindle fire

My ipad screen completely stopped working last summer. It was cracked, but only down the side, so looked pretty much fine, but then the screen stopped working. I took it to a man (he had replaced the screen for me once before) and he confidently assured me he could fix it.

£50 later and i am typing on it now. I hadn't stood on it, but i strongly suspect it had been dropped by dd2 and now it's as good as new.

Plug it in to a charger, leave it for ten minutes

Hold down the home, and off buttons together. Hopefully after a while (about 15-20 seconds) the screen will light up and you will see the Apple logo.

When/if the Apple logo comes up let go of the buttons and leave it to finish booting up.

Just get a regular fire, lots of free games in underground.

Thank you everyone. All much appreciated. I'm going to look into a fire for him. Thank you again.

My 10 year old have adult kindle fire, they watch you tube and Netflix. I paid 30.00 on black Friday. I download free stuff for them weekly. No glitches and has been replaced first to one them dropping it. Best thing is they transferred all their downloads and games onto the new one

Frazzled74 · 31/10/2017 22:49

yes kindle fire, and don’t bother with the kids one, you can download the kids app, but it’s really not necessary, ds has Netflix and all the Lego and dinosaur games on his.

SpinnerDryer · 01/11/2017 18:53

You have convinced me to get the adult one.

Ive ordered the Fire8 - HD 16GB.
Its £59 in Tesco, I used my clubcard points to buy half of it.

I wont know what to do with it though

Ausparent · 01/11/2017 18:55

We bought a Hudl from Tesco with Clubcard points about 5 years ago and it is still working fine.

chickensarethebest · 01/11/2017 19:09

Another option - rent an ipad from Hughes?

toptomatoes · 01/11/2017 19:14

DD has the kindle fire after an old broken iPad gave up and she's perfectly happy with it. It was £40 or less. I just got the adult version and she plays on it on the kid settings.

Deliabell we got a tablet free with a mobile phone contract a few months ago. It’s not needed and is just sitting in spare room (technology luddites here!) . It’s ‘only’ a google nexus 7, screen not nearly as big as iPad but you are welcome to it if you would like.

MyOtherNameIsAFordFiesta · 01/11/2017 20:26

If you don't get the iPad fixed, you may still be able to sell it (obviously say that it's broken) to someone who'll fix it themselves. Then you could put that money towards a new tablet.

I'd definitely go for Android - you get more for your money. The one I have is no longer made, so I can't recommend that one, but my brother has Kindle Fires for his kids and seems happy with them.

Thank you everyone for your comments.
Magdalen i didn't know that, thank you so much.
Cunning. That's so incredibly kind of you. I've sent you a private message.
