I relocated (to the bin) our pre-lit tree this New ear , I was really Meh with it . It was a hasty purchase a few years back but never felt right.
We were going to buy a new one (pre lit of possible) but I'm not happy with what I've seen so far.
Too tall/too £££ /too plastic

Decided to cope with the needles, we've redecorated so there's a space well away from any radiators . We have a cast iron tree stand that holds 1 litre of water.

Anyone bought the Ikea tree before? Is it worth the trip out ( and wrangling it into the car)

What's the going rate for a bog standard tree , about 5'6" - 6'

I don't want to wait to get the Last Tree In The Window though, I'll buy it early Dec and keep it in the garden till 9th/10th

TIA Xmas Smile

I did look at Balsam Hill floral (and QVC, Costco, a tree site recommended on here that looked really good ) plus ones instore.
Trouble with delivery is I'm not here to recieve it and it means either one of my NDN taking it (which isn't ideal huge parcel) or going to the depot to collect (our local PO depot is on Double Yellows Hmm )

IIRC our last tree we bought was £50ish a few years back (local)
One I bought from Homebase had me hoovering needles out the car till March Grin

Plans to check out in local press for trees for sale ...

Ours has a 10 yr guarantee , and a 5 yr guarantee on the tree lights , even if you said £40 per year for a 7' real tree , which would be cheap ours will pay for itself in 7.5 yrs . I'm planning on it lasting a lot longer than that . ( it was £300 in the sale ) .

Ohhhh I agree logically the outlay would pay for itself over cost/use .
I'd need to scrutinise them all to decide what one would be the optimum tree,.....

Decisions (actually DH suggested a real tree this year, I think he doesn't get the Economies of Cost Per Use and I blame him entirely for the horrible tree which arrived one year we had heavy snow , IIRC on the 22nd so I hated it the first year, I had to set it up myself. My love for it didn't grow in the years that followed Xmas Grin )

My children ( adults) were furious we threw away the old tree we had , it was dreadful , they said it was an 'heirloom' . We had a real tree one year and I couldn't stand the smell .

We buy a real tree every year, it’s usually around £25. If you water it and keep it away from heat then the needles shouldn’t drop too much.

Wow you guys pay a lot for your trees. We get ours from the garden centre attached to Morrisons and we’re in Scotland (not sure if that makes a difference in price). I think the most I’ve paid is £30 and it was huge

It's got to be a real tree IMO (for the main tree anyway). We buy ours from a local farm shop and it costs around £45 for a 6 foot. We have bought them from B&Q in the past, and I think we paid around £35. X

How do you keep them watered, our local greengrocer just sells them on a stand.

You (or the seller) cut a couple of inches off the bottom and you use a stand that you can fill with water. Like a giant cut flower, really.

Can't help as always had false trees. Been looking to get a real one this year and the 5-6 ft ones in my area are £40.
Can I just ask, are real trees likely to bring spiders in to my home?

We always buy one from the darn in our village. I think i paid £40 last year for a 6ft non drop. We always keep our trees watered and away from radiators etc.

We have had a smaller tree before which we then put on a sturdy coffee table. So you get the impact of height, but we then used the space below the tree for presents.

I love real trees but they are an extravagance
