Christmas candles when I don't like spicy smells

My summer candles are running out and I'd like a wintery smells. I really dislike sweet and sickly or spicy smells but my usual floral or cotton/linen is just too summery for winter. Any ideas?

The mercury glass is beautiful

Vulgarlady · 22/10/2017 21:38

Lily flame "Winter woods" is gorgeous. I don't like spice/fruit either. This one is really clean smelling

Get thee to a garden centre and fill your boots!
Yankee have a good range of anything evergreen and some neutral white but Christmassy scents too:

All Is Bright
Season of Peace
Christmas Garland
Cracking Log Fire
The Perfect Tree
Snow In Love
Angels Wings
Winter Glow
Red Apple Wreath.
Fresh Mint

I love Christmas scents!

Interestingly Rufus the Woodwick Frasier Fir is the one I have lined up to test sniff at my local candle shop, in an attempt to replace the Sainsbury Christmas Tree. They've still got mostly Halloween stuff at the moment.

Has anybody tried the Woodwick hearthwick candles? I normally get the cylinder ones, bit worried about the wick sinking in the hearthwick but you'd get a bigger flame and more a crackle I guess. Also does anybody know what the Woodwick Warm Wool candle smells like?

Unexpectedbaby · 23/10/2017 08:13

I am the same. Hate anything too sweet or spicy.

Asda do a candy cane in their Home Inspirations candles. Smells better than the Yankee version and a fraction of the price. Smells more like peppermint than sweets and they have brought it back this year. I will be buying 3! (And still be spending less than on Yankee)

Also, woodwicks Christmas range smells lovely. Good range of scents and with crackling wicks so feel cosy too.

ironing

I use the hearthwick

Is lovely, no problem with the wick...i would say there was the odd time when the flame wasnt that impressive but usually i was dead chuffed with it. Actually its probably when imknocked it and the wax went a bit higher...but it soon corrected itself

They did a beautiful Christmas one last year. I kept the jar

Have got a clue re warm wool...

beingsunny · 23/10/2017 10:07

I treated myself to a glasshouse white Christmas candle which I’m joyfully burning every day to begin the Christmas season early, not to spicy either Grin

IroningMountain · 23/10/2017 10:08

How long did it last Rufus? Our medium cylinder one has being going for ages. Just ordered a large.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 23/10/2017 10:15

The Yankee home inspirations range they do in asda has a gorgeous minty one called candy cane forest. It's nicer than the proper Yankee candy cane lane in my opinion.
If you live near a big poundworld they have the last years edition of it for £5.

Also the home inspirations bundle up (also from asda) is gorgeous.

Ironing

Quite a while, i was trying to use it up before January Grin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 23/10/2017 16:53

Might try some of asda ones

I have just bought an aldi one as they are supposed to be good (though i do like the white company and john lewis for their spice Christmas ones)

IroningMountain · 23/10/2017 17:25

If it smells right I might treat myself.

Treeballarae · 14/11/2017 13:57

Late to the party but @IroningMountain I had a smell of the Warm Wool Woodwick at the weekend - it was like a wool blanket that had been freshly washed and fabric conditioned and had been warmed up on a radiator - it was lovely - I couldn't decide between that and fraiser fir one so I left empty handed (for now).

The PP up the thread who recommended St Eval candles I bought their bay and rosemary and lemon and thyme tins and the Inspiritus tea lights for Christmas. I've only used the bay and rosemary one so far - it smells like my grandfather (a mix of his aftershave and his soap) - so quite a comforting smell, thank you, I'd never heard of that company until you posted about it.

IroningMountain · 14/11/2017 16:19

Ha ha. In that case I may have the same conundrum this weekend.
