Christmas breakfast ideas - not at the table

6 of us for Xmas - me, DH, DD (4), diabetic MIL (85), DM and DF.

So far I've managed to distract DD away from opening presents til after breakfast so everyone gets to eat before DD tackles present mountain (took several hours last year - separate thread but mostly driven by the grandparents; the excess is a pain in the arse and unnecessary).

Anyway I don't think I'll be able to get her to wait this year without upset which I don't want on Xmas day so thinking of letting her get started then bringing some food out mid pressies into the sitting room. Any thoughts about what would be xmasy?

I could do bacon rolls and tea/OJ but wondered about other easy to eat options.

Ninja you have literally made my day! Grin

We start on presents then take a break for breakfast. We don’t have turkey & trimmings till around 5pm so need some breakfast —before we start on the chocs— to keep us going. Usually something that can be prepped in advance and then popped in the oven when we get up.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/10/2017 16:00

Gah, strike through fail!

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 15/10/2017 16:29

But if you're not eating until 5pm when will you fit in the Xmas buffet?! Confused

Surely it goes:
Breakfast - Cup of tea. Kids can have chocolate if they want.

1pm Dinner - Turkey and all the trimmings. Followed by a pot of tea and After Eights.

6pm Tea - Shit loads of buffet stuff. Then trifle. Then more After Eights.

10pm snack - chocolate.

There'd be no room for the classics if we ate breakfast so it must be sacrificed. Grin

We have panettone, and often have a little nibble of the gammon that I cook on Christmas eve.

We then have canapes at about 11.30, and "lunch" at about 3 / 3.30. We save the pudding and cheese until the evening.

The day is one long graze...

Ferrero Roche for breakfast in this house!

Ecureuil · 15/10/2017 19:04

We don’t eat Christmas dinner until 5pm ish either. It’s a drawn out affair (canapés, dinner, pudding, cheese) so often doesn’t end until 11pm! Buffets are for Boxing Day Grin.
We tend to have bacon rolls and Buck’s Fizz for breakfast.

Ifearthecold · 15/10/2017 19:08

We have smoked salmon, hot rolls and champagne. DC have stockings but don't get presents until the afternoon after lunch. They have never complained that much, as the adult you do get to decide the day's structure. like anne we save pudding until the evening or maybe the next day.

ALemonyPea · 15/10/2017 19:17

My DC eat Jaffa cakes for breakfast on Christmas morning. They always get a yard of the orangey buggers left with their presents.

The adults have bacon sandwiches, but this year I want to do pastries. Costco do a nice selection so getting those.

insancerre · 15/10/2017 19:19

Bacon sandwiches, coffee and Bucks Fizz while we open presents

Normalserviceissuspended · 15/10/2017 19:44

smoked salmon warm part baked bread rolls and champagne

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/10/2017 07:18

UntilTheCowsComeHome I’m in the ‘buffets are for Boxing Day camp’ too! I like Christmas morning to be lesuirely and relaxed, eating later makes the dinner prep easier for us. No rushing off during present opening to put the turkey on etc.

2014newme · 16/10/2017 08:17

We have Christmas dinner in the evening too. Does anyone really want a huge meal at 1pm? We have a very leisurely day with no rushing to get the turkey done. Buffet boxing day cold turkey, cola ham etc

TheNewMrs · 16/10/2017 09:06

We have bacon and egg buns Smile
Quite filling but we don't have dinner until late usually, probably not a great suggestion if you have an early Christmas lunch.

CheerfulMuddler · 16/10/2017 11:07

Scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, bagels bucks fizz here. Perfect diabetic food. (Well, maybe not the bucks fizz).

Bloodybridget · 16/10/2017 23:16

Last year I made blueberry pancakes, will probably do the same this time. Everyone likes them, including the grandchildren. If I were just choosing for myself, a bacon roll sounds very good.

TomatoTomAto · 18/10/2017 18:52

Homemade rolls with egg/bacon and cinnamon buns. Will have fruit salad stuff too. I can't wait!
