Your most memorable Christmas present?

Every year I work hard to get my children their 'must have' gift that will make their Christmas, but I do wonder if, years on, they'll even remember what they got.

My most memorable present was aged 9, a brand new 10 speed bike. Memorable because it finally dawned on me that there was no way it came in a sleigh (though I tried half heartedly to insist that one of FC's elves must have ridden it) so for me that present meant the end of FC. I loved that bike though!

If you were to ask my 7 year old, his most memorable present was a 99p blow up dinosaur he got when he was 4 (and not the tablet, RC cars, tractor ride on or Hatchimsl he's had since then)!

This is most memorable Christmas present. I think I was 4 or 5 years old. I played with it for years.

Barbie horse and carriage bridal set, must have cost a relative fortune mid 90s but I was so over the moon with it, I used to do TY bear weddings and marry barbie to a beanie baby Grin

I've kept it to hand down to DD when she's old enough to appreciate it

Favourite childhood toy was a Barbie salon, sounds pretty mundane but the best part was my mum and dad really trying to keep the magic of Father Christmas alive. The salon was a weird beading station, and you had a threader thing to add beads to your hair.
I was gutted when I opened it on Christmas morning and then beads weren't there. Had a bit of a sulk for a few days. Came to New Year's Eve and my parents asked me to shut the chimney hatch, and as I stuck my hand up to close the hatch, a wrapped present fell down. When I unwrapped it, it had the beads from the salon inside. Kept Father Christmas alive for me for a few more years.

The most memorable Christmas in my head was when I was 9 or so, and my stocking contained crayons, a book, and a plastic pig money box filled with little Kinder eggs (probably some other things too).

In terms of toys that I played with for years, Lego, a computer (Amiga 500!) and a skateboard were probably the longest lasting.

I also remember my Granny giving me an orange elephant teddy. I'd seen it one day when I was in a shop with her, and loved it, and she'd taken it from the shelf when I wasn't looking and stuffed it under a pile of other toys. Then after taking me home, she went back to the shop to retrieve it and buy it. I remember being quite touched that she'd gone to all that effort.

That's gorgeous Billy . I might actually do something like that on purpose for my boys!

A desk for my bedroom when I was 9. It's when I realised that there was no Santa. Why would someone who made wishes come true bring me a piece of furniture that I had never even thought of, let alone wanted? Confused Grin

My parents are still the masters of WTF presents.

Mine as a child was a black and red bmx bike
As an adult it was my London marathon medal that dh had framed with my name underneath. Made me cry ( he's not very thoughtful usually!)

I was brought up by my dad who was an older parent and did not believe in the 'materialistic' side of Christmas. If my sister and I got presents, they tended to be educational - I'll never forget the Christmas we got a set of encyclopaedia as our main present... One year we spent Christmas with a family friend in France - a very kind woman who had no children of her own. On Christmas morning we woke up to find piles of presents; my favourite was a beautiful doll - one of those very fancy French dolls - I think La Carolle make similar nowadays. It was the best Christmas ever Smile.

A cd player (with Now 29 album!)

A table-tennis table

When I was a child it was a toy puppy that made a noise when you pressed its nose. It lived in the corner of my bed for years.

As an adult a kettle from my DH. Might sound crap but it was amazing. My old kettle had died and I loved it (it had temperature settings) he managed to track down an exact replacement for me.

Going to bed on Christmas Eve thinking it was just going to be me and Mum because Dad was off somewhere with the military. Waking up to find him home.

Second best was my huge wooden dolls house with electric lights, a fish tank (which also lit up) and a garden full of tiny flowers. Selling it as a student because I was never having children is one of my biggest regrets.
