Alternatively, if you are in your early to mid 50s what would you and/or your DH like to receive?

Budget anything up for £150 as I can get my siblings to go in on gift with me.

My dad is an avid golfer but already has a lot of the gear - golf watch, good shoes, etc. Mum knits and loves a good tv show. Both good cooks and very sociable. I was thinking a hamper full of naice food and drink bits plus maybe some kind of voucher for an experience/day out but better ideas are most welcome!

My parents are getting a Roberts Revival dab radio. They haven't asked for anything, and never do, but I have one and love it, and I know they like to listen in the kitchen. Following a thread here yesterday I've also bought my mum the Amazing Mr Blunden on DVD (she's been looking for years) and my dad will also get a bottle of M&S port after really enjoying some we had last year. I really relish buying them gifts at Christmas as theh struggled so much when we were kids but did such a good job. Such a contrast to my husbands family unfortunately.

Jo Malone perfume and a €100 book voucher for her fav bookshop for my mum, she's 55. Nothing for my dad as he doesn't celebrate Christmas for religious reasons. I'm going to buy him some new clothes for the gym in November though because he is very good to me Smile.

I'm in that age group but can't think what I'd want apart from books or a new George Foreman

Donostia · 15/10/2017 17:34

I'm only 30 but love knitting and my Mum is getting me a lovely set if interchangeable knit pro symfonie circular needles in a beautiful presentation box and I'm so excited about them!

Mrsmadevans · 15/10/2017 17:58

A globe. Possibly one that is also a lamp.

@alletik thank you for the workshop idea! Dad got a good DSLR from my mum for Christmas last year and he has made noises about wanting to use it properly - will see what I can find locally to them

@Donostia I'm off to look up those needles!

My DF ànd DSM told me not to buy them anything as I'm having a baby mid November and they'd prefer it if we spent the money on baby stuff we need (and they get a grandson so they're more excited about that tbh)
DM on the other hand... No idea what she wants, no idea what she needs, and she never gives a clear answer when I ask her (in her 50's) so I'm not really bothering too much. Maybe a hamper of some kind. Not that she could have much anyway as she lives and works at a school...

OP-there are loads of smart plugs on Amazon but the ones we've got are TP link-work well with alexa. Likely to be discounted in Black Friday

I want a stone hare for my garden-where do you find such things?!

Pixie2015 · 15/10/2017 21:35

Prefer to buy them a meal voucher for somewhere local that they haven’t tried it theatre tickets. To go with this toiletries and sweets that I know will be consumed - great thread

phoenix1973 · 15/10/2017 21:45

Last year was my mum and s dad first in a new town with a good theatre.
They loved the theatre in their previous town so i got concert tickets for elo tribute band and they loved it.
Im looking to buy them tickets or experiences they can do again.
They buy what they like.
They both have b days in dec which is tricky too.
Ive bought scarves fragrance jewellery in the past

I'm in your target age group. I'd like a sprocket. I am holding onto a gift voucher I was given a little while ago, so if it doesn't turn up in my Christmas stocking, I can get it myself after Christmas. I'd love a voucher for a few days in a nice hotel. I'd like a subscription to Netflix so I can watch a particular programme which is only available on there. I would love a white opal pendant to match some earrings I have. Kindle/Amazon vouchers are always welcome. I love microfibre towels. So a good set - bath sheet and hand towel would be very welcome. I like good quality dark chocolate but NOT Green and Black's which tastes like treacle to me (Guylian do a dark chocolate bar with no added sugar for your diabetic mum).
Magazine subscription? I've had several on the past and I love the fact it continues throughout the year.

drspouse · 16/10/2017 09:05

I'm (just) in that age group but have two small DCs so may not be your target audience...
Anyway I want
Full length mirror
Books - Hidden Figures and Hamilton
Massage, spa day (might get half a day!)
Jewelry (DH is good at shopping at craft fairs/artsy shops).
DH is a little older but he's getting
50 Things That Made The Economy book
Boden jumper/shirt
Nice chocs
A clothes valet thingy
Local art house cinema membership.

Tickets for Strictly tour
Is Strictly not more of a tweens/parents thing??

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 16/10/2017 09:33

@drspouse we went last year (in our early 30s!) and there was a vast age range from 7-70!
