Can we have a thread for the difficult to buy for men in our lives? I got some great ideas here last year, like the Wallet Ninja and Sugru.
Any ideas of any budget welcome.

Great stuff MN. I've just googled the wallet ninja and Grid it & both will be in dh's stocking this year.

Successes from previous years (there have been lots of failures too!)

Foam roller
Exercise clothes
Wooden nose glasses holder
GoPro and accessories
New wallet
Cashmere jumper
Bottle of fancy gin
Tickets to Top Gear live

CaretakerToNuns · 04/10/2017 23:41

Males never use anything you buy them from my experience. They just grunt and throw it into the corner of the room with the rest of their junk.

Years ago I bought DH a dressing gown from here www.bathrobe.co.uk
Bloody expensive but he seriously will never need another, after 10 years it still looks brand new and the quality is absolutely fab.

Kindle (again as DH left his on a plane!)

We are getting a new puppy towards the end of the year (should be born this week 🐶) our kids are 25 so we've agreed between us all that pup will be the family's main present to each other and we'll just spend £50 for Christmas morning)..... this isnt just because it's Christmas, we've been talking all year about getting another one and we are all onboard (already have 2)

Both our boys like Molten Brown shower stuff

Driving experience goes down well

Last year I bought DS and his fiancée Groupon Vouchers for lobster and steak dinner at a lovely restaurant

DrRisotto · 05/10/2017 09:33

How do you get tickets to top gear (or potentially other car programmes) live?

IggyAce · 05/10/2017 09:43

Thanks for the ideas, my DH never asks anything unless to boxers or bodywash.

DangerousMouse · 05/10/2017 10:06

The Spicery is a good website for men, I've just ordered my Dad a burry box which has 50% off... ordered myself one too. I'll try and link

Link for registering for tickets to recordings of the show but pp may have meant the touring stadium event Top Gear Live. I don't think there are any future shows currently planned for which one could buy tickets at the moment.

drspouse · 05/10/2017 11:22

I am getting my dad a set of Bletchley Park puzzle books from the Book People and some coffee from Pact Coffee (£5 off with my code)

And 50 Things that Made the Economy. Also getting that for DH, and some jumpers/t-shirts (Boden, maybe Gap), a local art house cinema membership and maybe a Tile or maybe more than one...

I got him Sugru last year and he didn't like it. Sorry.

Not quite a man, but I often get cookbooks for older boys in my gift list (and this year a 7yo is getting one!).

drspouse · 05/10/2017 11:27

Oh and DH usually gets some posh chocolate (bars not chocolates).
We've had the Hotel Chocolat slabs before but he doesn't like them that much (bit sweet I think, but he doesn't like dark chocolate much either!).

Any thoughts?

bastardlyandmutley · 05/10/2017 11:54

Last year was coffee themed; bean grinder, Aeropress, selection of beans, Breville coffee maker for on the go (percolates into a travel flask) and a photo mug with pictures of our mutts. He loved that and uses it all daily (bar the Breville).

I've also got him a cigar box guitar. He enjoyed messing around with that over Xmas and it inspired him to get a proper electric guitar and amp - a wonderful addition to any household!

His brewing kit went down well, he got quite into that.

He has said that this year alcohol gifts would be well received which apparently isn't boring and unimaginative.

MrsHathaway · 05/10/2017 11:57

I used to work for Charbonnel and will always recommend them. If Hotel Chocolat is too sweet - and although they do darker chocolates I agree many of their fillings/toppings are gimmicky very sweet - then you would do well with truffles, probably whisky or champagne none of this salted shit in milk chocolate.

drspouse · 05/10/2017 12:15

Thanks @MrsHathaway, we have not tried them so I will go for that!

drspouse · 05/10/2017 12:18

Hmm though I'm going to need a code/sale/discount of some kind!

MrsHathaway · 05/10/2017 17:48

Yes they are £££ but so worth it. Sort by price and get a small box.

just5morepeas · 05/10/2017 19:07

Oh, thanks for the idea of the Curry Legend box - just ordered one for my brother! Can't beat half price!

And now it's showing as unavailable on amazon, bet I just got in there on time.

Tickyboovicki · 05/10/2017 21:51

Ooh following for inspiration! Have other half, brother in law, Dad and then brothers birthday all to buy for....eek!

drspouse · 06/10/2017 09:32

Oh by the way I've just looked up reviews of the Tile and the Nut and the Nut seems to be cheaper and just as good. For anyone who's always losing their phone/wallet/keys!

MrsHathaway · 06/10/2017 11:43

Nut seems to have $15 off first order through their own website if you provide an e-mail address. However, Amazon UK has them also, and apparently cheaper. Probably more secure, too.

I am severely tempted as DH spends an inordinate of time looking for stuff he hasn't put away sensibly. His smartwatch can locate his phone and vice versa, but it's more for his fucking shoes and fucking car keys.
