I've just changed my phone keyboard pad to a Christmas theme, it has rudolph acoss a midnight sky with snow effect! Nearer the time my ring tone will change to The Christmas Song (Chestnuts roasting...) What changes do you make to everyday things to embrace the season?

Can I ask where you all store this all? In big boxes or a suitcase?

Threenme · 01/10/2017 09:04

I have fruit boxes stacked and labelled in a bid cupboard. They fit well into each other and you can store loads without it getting squashed because they support the ones above ifswim.

Most of ours is stored in the attic. However I'm paranoid about things getting damp so bedding, clothing, lights, dvd's, that type of thing I keep in our wardrobes. We don't have much storage space in our little three bed terrace! Would love some built in cupboards or a garage to store things.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/10/2017 12:32

We keep bedding in linen baskets in our rooms, tea towels in the tea towel drawer, hand towels in with the towels and the cushions are in the narrow cupboard part of my wardrobe.

Brittbugs80 · 01/10/2017 15:18

Christmas cushions on settee
Winter wreath on door (replaces autumn wreath)
Cups in kitchen
Tea towels
Doormat
Toilet roll/kitchen roll
Bedding (winter not specific Christmas)

Then Christmas decs go up first weekend in December and we have 4 vintage Christmas posters in frames. The frames have all year round pictures on one side so we turn the frames round too.

Our cushions, beddings and all material stuff we keep in the vacuum bags then put inside the clip lock plastic boxes and they stay damp free in the loft.

Wrapping paper is stored up there too and this is in a clip lock box.

MuddlingThroughLife · 01/10/2017 15:55

@brittbugs80 I don't know why I worry about it to be honest. Nothing ever gets damp up there but just can't put my christmas lights and fabrics up there!

dementedma · 01/10/2017 15:59

I am genuinely gobsmacked. I didnt know people did all this!!! We do a tree and fairy lights etc but just use the household stuff we use all year.

Brittbugs80 · 01/10/2017 15:59

It's because it's dark and gloomy! I have a big Father Christmas gnome that has to go up the loft and I spend all my time yelling "be careful, it's dark, he doesn't like it" as DH struggles up the ladder with him!

peachy94 · 01/10/2017 19:43

Mines all in big plastic Ikea boxes in the loft! My mum still the bits of Christmas tree (can't think of the word) that she puts around her big mirror in the lounge up, complete with party popper bits from New Years 👀

Sandycarrots · 01/10/2017 19:47

Blimey Shock. Most I stretch to (in addition to usual decorations) is a couple of Chistmas tea towels - and a relative bought me those.

MuddlingThroughLife · 01/10/2017 22:07

@brittbugs80 That made me chuckle. You sound as daft as me lol x

Isadora2007 · 01/10/2017 22:21

I wasn't stupidly excited to buy festive washing up liquid from aldi last year. Even bought some for my very clean-freak friend!!
Bedding, towels (kitchen, dish and hand), loo roll (not scented though) and wall art plaques etc.
The kids have the musical little people (fisher price) nativity which they're really too old for but we all love and it gets set up near the fireplace. I would like to get a Christmas photo canvas made with photos from xmasses gone by... and put it up each year. Maybe a multi- print photo frame would be better and I could add on to that... hmmmm

PJs and Christmas stories box come out 1st Dec. And fleecy blankets too.

Oh I'm so excited!!!

guffaux · 01/10/2017 22:56

bedding, cushions, throws, ornaments, mugs, candles, bedroom and sitting room,
handtowels in the downstairs loo,
flowers (currently have a bloomon account so not sure what will be sent for december)
wall hanging at the head of the bed will be turned over- it has a plain back, which i hang some christmas decorations on -last year stars, trees, hearts, in christmas colours, not sure what this year,
music- have a full month worth of christmas carols, oratorios, messiah,
reading- always have a book to guide me through advent, not chosen this year's yet, but possibly Tom Wright,

dog wears her christmas jumper,
use star anise, cinnamon bark, dried orange and cloves in bowls to scent the room,

ozymandiusking · 01/10/2017 23:00

Smelly, Aldi did snow dog Christmas loo paper and a Christmas kitchen roll

SugarMiceInTheRain · 01/10/2017 23:05

Christmas tea towels and hand towels for the bathroom
Christmassy mugs/ plates/ bowls
Doormat
Sofa throws
Snowman loo roll and kitchen roll
Mulled spice candles replace my candles around the fireplace

Oooh I can't wait! Xmas Grin

Crumbs1 · 01/10/2017 23:14

The flowers for Christmas week tend to be white/dark green/ red with holly and Ivy foliage.
I have a large red Stewart tartan tablecloth for Christmas lunch otherwise nothing. I can't imagine having a pile of cushions and bedding that I only used once a year but had to store for the rest of the time. It would feel like a huge waste.
We put the nativity out. We put the tree up. We put holly atop the pictures with scarlet ribbon. I put a big twisted garland down the stairs and across the gallery. I make wreathes for the front and kitchen doors.
Not much more.

singadream · 01/10/2017 23:36

I grew up in a household where we did small tree and gifts and lunch but not decoration etc because not our religion. As such I have hugely embraced it as a grown up to make it magical for our kids. But I did not know this was a thing. Am now going to totally get Christmas loo roll and tea towels etc

Hadenoughtoday · 01/10/2017 23:44

Ahhh I finally understand the saying "I've found my people" I love you lot. I love Christmas and the more things I can change to Christmassy things the better
