Wrapping paper theme- let's pretend we don't just grab some from the supermarket

If I had the time (and a dedicated room) I'd have a different theme every year!
I tend to go Victorian/tartan but have seen this 80's wrapping on eBay. If I used it, would anyone know what I was doing or would it just look like I'd grabbed stuff from a small post office. These prints remind me so much of my eighties childhood.

Show me your ideal 'theme'

I'm avoiding paper with glitter on this year - a bastard to wrap as the tape wouldn't stick and glitter absolutely everywhere!

Back to traditional red gold and silver for me I think.

Although you guarantee the last few will be wrapped in paper that says 'happy birthday' or 'baby boy' as I never buy enough and am always fed up of wrapping by that point....

I think I'm going to go white/silver/gold/brown Kraft this year. For years our tree has been in a red and white Scandi theme and then last year I suddenly decided to do it all white, wood and silver instead (we have loads too many of decorations amassed over the last 20 years so I only use a proportion each year anyway).

The white and silver theme was so nice that I've decided to do the same again this year and the wrapping paper too - I've got some white paper with silver penguins and white paper with deer and glitter left over from a previous year's multipack. This will just be for our home presents as I need to wrap and send family presents up earlier as most of my relatives live a fair bit away across the country. Can't wait to get wrapping! I haven't decided the theme of the family presents wrapping yet, though I already have penguin gift bags for the niblings so it might have to be penguins!

I love M&S for wrap - on a 3 for 2 it isn't too expensive and it's good quality with a cutting guide on the back. They normally have some lovely designs.

Love that 80s wrap - looks 70s to me, too, or early 80s - but it is so nostalgic! My grandmother always wrapped presents in wrap like that!

Wayfarersonbaby · 23/09/2017 09:29

Although I was just about to buy a wrap from M&S called "Arctic Animals" with penguins and polar bears on, but my inner pedant stopped me cries

OhTheRoses · 23/09/2017 09:38

Ah my wrapping theme. It's whatever M&S or Sai sbury reduced from 2.99 a roll to less than 50p on about 7th Jan. Same as 50p Xmas puddings ?which are perfect the following year), £1.50 crackers and holly table cover and napkins for less than £2 rather than £10. It all looks lovely and ends up in the bin anyway!

Misses point of thread - sorry.

I always think that loads of different types of paper looks so much more appealing and exciting than one bland colour scheme. Do people who have to use different paper for different people not use labels then? I buy a roll of sticky Christmas labels, usually from one of those market Christmas stalls, makes life much easier.

Starlight2345 · 23/09/2017 10:24

I am Reading with shock..I do just grab a roll from supermarket.

I didn't know people put so much thought into it.

trixymalixy · 23/09/2017 10:26

I'm doing marble wrapping paper this year for the adults. I bought it way before the cox and cox Christmas range came out though so I'm annoyed it'll look like I copied them!

liquidrevolution · 23/09/2017 10:34

Father christmas uses bright coloured tissue paper. Dd is only 3 so it helps her be able to open them. Plus its cheap from poundland.

I cant remember what this years paper is. I buy in January and it goes straight in the loft. But it will co ordinate with sage green ribbon as i still have tonnes of it leftover from my wedding 6 years ago

HandbagCrazy · 23/09/2017 12:01

I really like having different coloured and patterned presents to look at. I usually buy reduced rolls wherever I find them in January (Sainsbury's and B&M ones this year). I tend to stick to a traditional type theme - I have a roll left over from last year that was matt gold with Christmas trees on it that i love. Others this year are cream with merry Christmas bunting print, silver with holly on and blue with Santa's sleigh.

No DC yet but love the idea of having different colours for them. I may suggest this to my mum as every year either me or my sister open something that isn't for us!!

Annwithnoe · 23/09/2017 15:14

OP That paper is wonderful. I don't think I could waste it give it away to philistines family and friends

I love themes, partly because I feel obliged to make up for the crap inside. I've done tartan, jewel colours, musical notation, newspapers, brown paper, flocked papers, Tiffany blue and white ... etc I used stripes one year and spent hours making them line up perfectly but that obviously was long before children. These days I specialise in maximum impact for minimum effort.

Santa uses different paper (and very clumsy wrapping) for each child and the pattern on the paper is usually something to do with their hobbies and interests for that year

And no one actually notices any of this I'm sure

OhHolyFuck · 23/09/2017 19:05

@Isadora2007 the red Pokemon paper was on eBay and the blue Pokemon was from matalan Smile

Threenme · 23/09/2017 21:50

Issdora do you have a mirror up or a canvas? Take down wrap in your 80s paper and add bow! Rehang and have presents hanging on the wall!

PerfumeIsAMessage · 24/09/2017 16:05

That 80s paper made my heart sing too. Transported me straight back to my nan's with her tiny tinsel tree and strings of cards over the fireplace. I am heading straight to eBay to buy me some to add to my 70s Boots and Avon gift sets that I have in my own personal memory box.

I have some sheets of fancy "vintage" style Italian paper that I got from Amazon but didn't arrive in time last year. Will top up with some Paper chase as I usually get their designs on 3x2 at some point.
I love wrapping.
