Gluten free food treats

My DD was diagnosed with coeliac disease in May and this is our first gf Christmas. Can you lovely people recommend any gf treats I need to look out for? Am guessing some will sell out quickly after they're released and don't want to miss out. She's 8 and I know she'll be furious when she realises which party foods are just a big no now.

Nah, you'll be spoilt for choice - the supermarkets have cottoned on that 'gluten free treats' sell like, well, gluten free hot cakes, and keep their shelves stuffed. Especially at Christmas!

Better start saving up then as no doubt it'll be £3 for the gf version and £1.50 for the non gf!
Thanks though. Realised that I'd never noticed in previously. I guess you don't until it is part of your own life.

M&S have a good selection

If you cook / bake try a straight swap for GF flour for normal - it works on most things.

My son is intolerant so I make way more stuff at home so we can all eat the same things - though I do think he likes being "special" and having his own stuff

Yeah it will cost heaps more and be a faff to prepare / bake two lots of things but you can get replacements for pretty much everything.

I am a big fan of GF stuffing! Smile I think we get a paxo one but have tried a few and think they're great.

I buy these pretzel things called Gratify. Got them from Tesco, they’re really nice and you’d never tell they were gluten free.

M&S small Christmas cake is lovely.

Delicious Alchemy (on line) cake mixes are amazing and a great cheat if you get late notice of cake sales.

M&S and other supermarkets are removing gluten from so many foods (sausages, roast spuds, gravy etc.

M&S cinimmon tortilla rolls. Amazing.

It's is more expensive but you make more from scratch so it evens out a little.

What things with gluten would she usually have had that she won't be able to have now?

It's worth checking labels as many things might surprise you in being gluten free. Most cheesy lasagne white sauces for example don't have any gluten listed (including domino/ Aldi etc)

I make stuffing from scratch anyway so it's dead easy just to swap to using gluten free bread.

Most of the supermarkets have pretty good GF ranges I would be surprised if they sold out quickly though.

I'm newly diagnosed this year too, so I'm heading to M&S for nice Xmas bits. Although most supermarkets do generally have a good selection from what I've seen.
