Stockings ideas for adults

We do stockings for adults in our family, but this year we've implemented a £25 limit on each stocking. As we used to go slightly OTT this is probably sensible but means we need to be ever more creative! So help me with ideas for the following:

BIL, mid-30s. Alcohol and chocolate are out. Very into bushcraft, outdoor, handyman type activities.

Sister; mid-30s. Not really "into" anything but always appreciates nice things like earrings, scarves, nice toiletries. Retro 1980s/1990s things always go down well!

Partner: loves cooking, wine, whisky, cheese! Trying to avoid activity-type vouchers as he never uses them!!

PS inspiration for main gifts is also appreciated. No £ limit Smile

BIL for 25 pounds you're not going to find much that fits those hobbies. He'll like good quality tools and things...so I'd focus on other fun stuff, novelty chocolates, bath stuff and a book related to his hobby.

BIL- You can get chocolate tools that are very realistic. Cozy waterproof socks (golf ones are good) for his outdoors time. A mini vacuum flask? And a miniature of booze.
Main present a leather man multi tool ?

Sister- a Rubix cube, hotel chocolate treats, mini prosecco and a nice travel mug.

Main present- jewellery

Partner- stocking- a mini mortar and pestle set, kitchen timer, new fancy spatula, mini wine and chocolate.

main gift -a tagine or something similar and new then maybe a monthly spices delivery to help inspire some new cooking. A nice wine rack with wine.

For your BIL depending on location you can get him a day on a woodworking course for as little as £5 have a look at this website

BIL - outdoor socks, boot laces, enamel mug, karabiners (spelling?), handwarmers, individual bags of trail mix type stuff, beef jerky, shower gel, lush shampoo bar, tiny flashlight, compass, metal water bottle or one of those plastic ones that fold up into nothing - kind of soft plastic, a buff (the head/neck thing), mini sunscreen, lipsalve, a spork or one of the slot together cutlery sets on a clip

Partner - cheese slice or any other nice kitchen tools, whisky rocks, a nice glass, little jar of saffron or some dried chillies or something, stainless steel soap thing for getting the smell of garlic off your hands, kitchen odour candles

Oh, some fantastic ideas , thank you everyone! I love putting stockings together and am a bit gutted that the price cap is going to limit my abilities, but there are some great "quirky" ideas in here that I will definitely use (is it weird that the suggestions of shoelaces and kitchen timer particularly appeal?!). You're all brilliant!!!

Bushcraft wise, paracord is always handy, lots of colour s on eBay.
The little book of whittling.
Emergency whistle, wallet ninja.

www.greenmanbushcraft.co.uk often have good offers on little bits and pieces.

The only thing I would add for BIL is a head torch ( rather than flashlight), a small compass and thermometer that clips on a bag, one of those little multi tools which is about the same size as a credit card by the Swiss Army brand, a gorilla pod if he likes to photograph while out and about, a waterproof cover for mobile phone and Kendal mint cake - they always sell that in outdoor shops.

For SIL check out the retailer RE who offer an unusual range of new and reclaimed items. Very unusual retro toiletry brands, beautiful decorative items, like beautiful tin hearts from Mexico, beeswax candles, toasting forks -,all sorts.

For the husband.... bloody hell I feel your pain there. I struggle with my DH who likes similar things but maybe get yourself to Lakeland. I usually go for Happy Feet socks in a violent patterns, posh shaving lotions and potions, ( I've tried several brands by RE). Old fashioned razor and blades ( non safety). Lots of coffee based gifts like the Aeropress, vintage coffee spoons, special mug, coffee subscriptions, little books by River Cottage ( bread making etc oooh they do foraging ones etc for BIL). Mushroom growing kit or cheese making kit. Whisky testing kits. Any of these reasonable?

For the main present what's the budget? My suggestions maybe A beautiful coffee machine? I would enjoy a day's cooking at River Cottage or at Rick Stein and maybe you could have a mini break at the same time. Perhaps you can tell us what you've bought before.

BIL:
Map case
You can get Karibaners in fancy animal shapes
Decathlon do underwear (fitted boxers) that are made of swimming suit type material (i think they are for watersports) DS loves these as they dry quickly so when he does outdoor stuff he doesn't end up with a wet arse all day if he happens to get wet. Your BIL probably spends £££ on quick drying lightweight trousers and wears then with cotton pants that hold the wet.
Insect repelent spray
DSs also have a wee tube of sunscreen you coms on a cord so you can wear round your neck/attach to a rucksack that also has a lipsalve on the lid too - great

Main Gift - Biolite stove etc?

SIL - no idea!

DH - nutmeg grater - teeny tiny and so cute!

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2017 14:24

Oh and for DH - look here:

Hand made glass whisky accessories and glasses etc.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2017 14:27

A Razor subscription or real ale one. I got a one-off crate and it was about £12 I think.

butterflymum · 22/09/2017 14:42

An Adapt and Survive paracord kit from Amazon might be appreciated by the BIL as a 'stocking' gift.

Tick lassoo. I started keeping one in my 'outdoorsy' kit last year and I've used it already. (And bought another because that tick freaked me right out and they're pretty cheap).
