Christmas Eve Hamper

I've decided to start doing a Christmas eve hamper for my kids this year.

I'm thinking of putting pj's, new bedsheets, their christmas day outfit and a book in it.
I don't know wether to put underwear and socks in it as I usually put them in their stockings?

Does that sound ok?
What does everyone else put in theirs?

Love Christmas eve hampers! I was quite late to the party as only heard of them a couple of years ago. Wish I'd known about them when Ds was much younger. He's 13 and last couple of years I've put in,
DVD
Pjs
Novelty mug & hot chocolate.
Sweets
Bubble bath.
If I'd done them when he was little I would've probably included a Christmassy story to read at bed time and a small toy/teddy, and reindeer food to sprinkle outside.

I'd thought of hot chocolate but there's 5 of them and I want to do a little basket each so I wasn't sure how to do it but a mug each is a great idea!
Don't know how I didn't think of soft toys either. They'll definitely be going in Smile

I put in new PJ's, a bath bomb from Lush, a letter from Father Christmas thanking DS for looking after his reindeer (elf alternative introduced when DS was 3 to encourage good behaviour!) A hot chocolate sachet and either a book or dvd.

When my DC were little the CEH was there when they came home from their walk
They had PJs, robe, slipper socks, jar of sweets, bath stuff, hotchocolate,

Now older (18 and 15.6 by Christmas) we do the Hamper on the 1st Dec,

They have their bedding on 1st Dec (though usually DD has 1st Nov Xmas Grin )
PJs, robe
A book ( one of those Zen Colouring Books and nice pens)
Jar of sweets (DS is more sweets than chocolate)

When they were little, it was an ideal way to properly signify Christmas Eve and time to have a bath and some quiet time.

Now they're older, it stretches out the festive season nicely .

Sheets I would give earlier- 1st December may be too early but maybe the week before (or over the weekend as Christmas is a Monday this year?). Only getting them when it's almost bedtime on Christmas Eve is almost a waste.

Yes PJs, book and CD outfit sound good.

I would keep socks and underwear to fill out stockings.

DD has Christmas sheets that are on her bed early in December.

Our family hamper holds -
New pjs for DH, DD and I
Seasonal lush bath bombs for DD and I (occasionally a festive manly shower gel for DH)
Naice hot choc for everyone (lump of choc on a wooden spoon to melt into hot milk)
Family copy of "''twas the night before Christmas " (bedtime story for DD since her first Christmas)
Her stocking to put out, plastic snowman glass and plate for santa's snacks and her snowman hot water bottle for bedtime

The plate, glass and hwb will have been in frequent use in December. The stocking and book only appear on 24th but book stays out until tree comes down (we have other Christmas books for December reading).

Pjs, bath bombs and hot choc are new.

But DD has alwsays known that I do the hamper, it's not an elf thing here. So reusing things is not a problem.

I do one on Dec 1st when the elf brings the children their advent calendars, Christmas bedding, fleecy blanket, Christmas pjs, slipper socks & a lollipop or something similar. Then on Christmas Eve they get a Christmas story, DVD, new pjs, bubble bath, sweets, reindeer food, hot chocolate and an activity/ colouring book.

Strokethefurrywall · 15/09/2017 14:47

I do:

  • Magic reindeer food
  • Santa's magic key (live in tropics, don't have chimney)
  • chocolate
  • Baileys (for me and DH obviously)
  • new toothbrushes
  • Night before Christmas story book
  • Christmas PJs
  • Hot chocolate
  • their stockings to hang

I got a christmas themed box when I was back in the UK years ago so chuck everything in there - sometimes throw in a stocking filler toy too but depends what I pick up.

AdoraBell · 15/09/2017 14:50

I do similar to oldwest but will not be doing the mug this year. We have over 30 bloody mugs already.

Plexie · 15/09/2017 14:59

Haven't heard of Christmas bedding before. Do you buy them a new set every year or just have one set out that comes out every Christmas?

BiddyPop · 15/09/2017 17:27

We have 1 set that comes out every year. And 1 fleece blanket too. But that's it.

Theoretically, I could use the red sheets at other times, but they go away again in January with the duvet cover set to keep them fresh and vibrant.

(I may, just possibly, buy a duvet set for DH and I this year - but we have a superking duvet and that's very hard to get festive, and suitably grownup, duvet sets for).

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/09/2017 17:37

My DS has red with snowflakes (I put it red side up on 1st Dec then flip it over to the decorative side a week before)

DD has flannely grey/white little woodland animals for winter then a Christmas fleece on top.

I need to buy some for DH and me, one that looks festive, goes with a pale grey bedroom, isn't hot flush inducing and isn't too OTT for DH (honestly, you sleep with your eyes shut DH, you won't know what it looks like )

Stompythedinosaur · 16/09/2017 01:02

Our CEH is meant to keep the kids busy for a bit while dp and I tidy and prep food, then provide some entertainment for the family, then encourage the dc to have a bath and go to bed. So we always have a crafty activity, a new Christmas DVD and snacks, something for a bath (sprudels or bath foam) and new pjs.

Birdsgottafly · 16/09/2017 08:47

Christmas bedding is really cheap st the moment from Studio, they do personalised as well. Ebay, as well. The prices go up in October.

I agree that bedding needs to be given on the Advent. Christmas Eve hampers are for fun stuff, the only practical thing should be PJs.

NYConcreteJungle · 16/09/2017 08:49

I don't do hampers. It's traditional to provide new night clothes and hot chocolate on Christmas eve, cake too if we go to Starbucks.

AdoraBell · 16/09/2017 08:54

DD has bought her own Christmas bedding this year, she ordered it on Asos.

Before you all cry Scrooge I have a DH who has hoarding tendencies and we have so many sets of bedding and it's driving me crazy so I let her use her own money so that she then takes said bedding with her when she moves out.

Win win 👍
