Fantasy solo Christmas

Anyone else do this?
I have a little plan of what I would do if I was ever alone for Christmas (preferably in a snowy cabin somewhere)
My fantasy includes: Huge fresh tree, loads of lights, a comfy squashy settee, Perfect fuzzy tartan pyjamas and cosy jumpers. An open fire, a feather duvet on a comfy bed, a deep bubble bath and lots of delicious festive food and drink from somewhere posh to nibble on whenever I fancied. I'd have a good book, some excellent Christmas movies to watch and still quiet walks outside in the snow.
What would be yours?

Pretty much the same. I love our family Christmas but like to think I'll be fine to let it go when the time comes and indulge exactly as you say.

Mrsmadevans · 13/09/2017 15:25

I am gonna go to the best hotel or even a cruise and scoff and drink, read Christmas carol, watch Christmas carol, listen to carols at Kings and do nothing to my hearts content . Then I will prob come back off the hol 2 st heavier lol. Just as well it is fantasy

HandbagCrazy · 13/09/2017 15:28

I have 2 - one is also the same as yours, but with a mystery 'someone' to cook me a lovely Christmas dinner.
The other is to be away (don't mind where) but it's snowing and cold. I spend the day walking around, stopping for hot chocolates and bit of food, just enjoying the peace (while Christmas music sort of drifts around me) Blush

We don't have dc yet so we're trying to get as close to my second ideal Christmas as possible. We've tried Prague, Krakow and Reykjavik and this year we'll be trying New York Xmas Smile

Oh sorry, thought this was about fantasy Christmas with Han Solo

I'd be similar - a log cabin isolated in the Rocky Mountains or similar in the US. Open fire or proper wood stove. Furry rugs. Deep bath and unlimited hot water and nice bubbles/oils/bath bombs. Really cosy comfortable bed.

Decent kitchen with well stocked cupboards and fridge - including wine etc. Lovely fresh fruit. Proper French pastries for breakfast and good coffee. Barry's teabags and Irish milk for big mugs of tea. Dainty nibbly things to easily cook in the oven, good cheese. But also the ingredients to indulge myself cooking - whether that's just junky food one day, or proper turkey (ok maybe poussin!) roast for 1.

Good wine. Brandy for my French coffee. Port for hot ports coming in from snow.

Skis, for daytime. And hiking boots for long bracing walks.

Books I am interested in, lots of movies and good music for relaxing.

Potentially a gathering one afternoon with people nearby, but isolated enough to close curtains on the world most of the time.

Nope, I've never thought about this before or needed a fantasy of peace and quiet to get me through particular weeks/days/hours.......Xmas Grin!!

this year we'll be trying New York

When are you going? Book yourself (before you go) tickets to the Rockettes Christmas show - we go every year, it's just amazing and visit Rockefeller tree. Bryant Park is good for Ice skating and is at the back of the library which also has a wonderful tree inside.

Also Holiday Lane in Maceys starts reducing their Christmas decorations two weeks before Christmas plus you get an extra 10% off for being an overseas visitor. The first time I went, I spent $230 and got just over $900 worth of decorations. I had to buy three backpacks to bring them back in as hand luggage!

You can also get a bus tour (book before you go) that goes over to Brooklyn and round the suburb areas that shows you all the Christmas lights in the neighbourhoods.

It's great, you will love it!

BiddyPop · 13/09/2017 16:08

Sorry, I forgot there does have to be a real tree (tastefully decorated of course), lots of twinkling lights and lots of candles to flicker away as the wind howls outside.

MoosicalDaisy · 13/09/2017 16:17

Log cabin... snowing outside... tree and lights... booze and many nibbles... open fire and a cosy fluffy rug... then in walks in insert your celebrity crush name here

Hahaha

BeyondThePage · 13/09/2017 16:31

I was alone for Christmas once.

Was equally bad and good. (Split with partner in Nov, couldn't face "enforced jollity" so told everyone I was working)

Lonely and fed up, but sat in PJs on sofa with blanket eating Pringles and Heroes and drinking nice wine - the more wine drunk, the nicer it all felt! Grin

cosy, comfortable, isolated cottage, somewhere snowy, preferably Scotland or the Lakes, on the shore of a Loch/sea or lake, underfloor heating, log fire, huge woodpile to keep it going,

bright days for long walks with ddog,

full larder/freezer/fridge with all my favourite food/nibbles/drinks, which is restocked in some mysterious way which does not need me to go shopping,

several good books, radio TV and wi-fi connection so I can indulge in all my favourites,

endless hot water to fill luxurious scented bath, could stretch this out for the full Christmas - New Year fortnight,

when can i book?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/09/2017 21:43

Ahh there would be:

An isolated cottage with a log fire
A bath that I can lay in with a clear window view that I can watch the snow
A stabled horse (that would be sensible in the aforementioned snow) that I could potter round on

Delicious vegetarian food

Tartan fleece bedding Xmas Grin

Years worth of Eastenders/Corrie/Emmerdale Christmas episodes that I can pick and choose.

Chocolate

A scruffy little terrier

HandbagCrazy · 13/09/2017 22:46

@Brittbugs80 Thank you! We're leaving on 23rd and back just after new year. I'd already dropped hints about the bus tour around Brooklyn for the decorations so DH has sorted that, and I'm definitely planning a home alone moment where I just stare at the big tree but haven't organised much else.
Am absolutely going to spend a fortune in Macy's and will definitely put Bryant Park on my list!

SpiritedLondon · 15/09/2017 14:26

I was in NY for a blizzard. They are so efficient at clearing it.... men in padded romper suits walk along clearing the pavements. It was ace but I had to buy warmer footwear.

Needalifeoverhaul · 15/09/2017 14:41

Id be in a little log cabin in Germany...maybe Bavaria. In the nearby town there'd be a quaint German (obviously!) Christmas market with music, lights and lots of lovely food. It'd be snowing and in the centre of the market would be a huge Christmas tree. I'd shop for some delicious food (chocolates essential) and buy a mug of proper steaming hot hot chocolate to sip on my way around. I'd be cosied up in thick winter woollies and have all the time in the world to potter round. I'd stop at a local inn for my evening meal, soaking up the festive atmosphere inside and then head back through the snow to my cabin. I'd light the fire and snuggle up on the sofa with my chocolates watching comedy films on TV until I fell asleep.
