Board game for adults

secondhoneymoon · 11/09/2017 12:24

Christmas will be with young adults (18-25), parents (us) and elderly, prim grandparents (rules out cards against humanity-type games.
We usually get out the good old favourites (Monopoly, Cluedo, Pictionary, Articulate) and we play cards.
Any suggestions for games which will engage all, can't be too complicated or rude cos of older people.
Thanks

Carcassone?

Pos1 · 11/09/2017 13:41

Qwirkle- like scrabble but with colours and shapes
Indigo
Speldour
Ticket to Ride
Diamoniak
Linkee
Sleeping Queens
Ratatat Cat
Sushi Go
Camel Up

All the above I'd recommend for family play. Have a look at Board Game Geek and you can watch reviews to see if the play would suit your family.....

Also Catan, depending on how quickly your group can pick up games

Pos1 · 11/09/2017 13:44

Actually not Diamoniak just re reading the ages of those involved

MuddlingThroughLife · 12/09/2017 07:43

We play silly games and drinking games. Last year I bought saucy charades which we didn't get round to playing as ds was poorly in the lead up to christmas. This year I've bought pass out, a drinking game. We also play things like kids charades, pie face and trivial pursuit.

We like a mixed bag!

Balderdash! Went down a storm last year with PIL.

TheVicarOfNibbleswicke · 12/09/2017 07:53

I love scattegories!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/09/2017 08:26

Mapominoes.

You need a big table though.

AnneOfCleavage · 12/09/2017 11:10

I buy new games every year but we always come back to don't panic, easy to play and fun.

vikjul · 14/09/2017 09:38

Dixit without a doubt!

Codenames is also supposed to be excellent, am planning to get that for Christmas. The original version is with words but there is also a version with pictures now.

vikjul · 14/09/2017 09:42

Actually, Halli Galli is also brilliant for silly fun and lots of laughs - works across all ages.

MrsSquiggler · 14/09/2017 09:46

Another vote for Dixit, it's a lovely game and grandparent friendly

vikjul · 14/09/2017 09:55

If there are many of you, Dixit Odyssey plays up to 12:

whereas the original plays up to 6:

The art is different but otherwise gameplay is the same. (There are also lots of expansions with fresh cards for coming years :-))

FoofFighter · 14/09/2017 10:26

Last Christmas, the biggest hits here with ages from 8 to 60s were Dobble and a game from Tesco with kazoos in, and you play name that tune.

secondhoneymoon · 14/09/2017 11:28

Thank you - so many great ideas will be difficult to choose - maybe a new Tradition, this lot will keep me going for years!!

Code names is brilliant. It gets better the drinker you get too Grin

icclemunchy · 14/09/2017 11:34

Drunker* thanks for that iPhone!!

BeyondThePage · 14/09/2017 11:36

Destination
Cluedo (Harry Potter one for us) and
Uno - card game, but easy fun.

WheresTheEvidence · 14/09/2017 11:36

Dixit
Logo game
Trivial pursuit - I bet you can't
Balderdash

ZiggyForever · 14/09/2017 11:38

Exploding Kittens - contrary to what you would expect! - is really good fun and suitable for families. Reckon the 18-25s would love it and you can play it straight or be quite Machiavellian - lots of mock howls-of-anguish when we played it Smile
