Which camera - Kidzoom or other?

My dd will be just 6 when it is Christmas. She is keen on taking photos with my phone or iPad and so I am thinking of getting her a camera. But which one?

There seem to be lots of different types and I'm a bit confused.

Help please!

I wouldn't get one specifically aimed at children. My dc have kidizooms and, although they like them, the picture quality is awful! Better off spending £50 on a little digital camera. She will feel so grown up.

Thanks, which kidzoom do they have? The only reason I was thinking of a kidzoom was to do with the ability to add borders and funny bits etc.

But any other thoughts or recommendations.

It's the kiddizoom action camera. Yes you can do that but the screens are so small and the pictures seems so blurry. I wonder if there's a digital camera with the option of funky borders etc

Thanks for the honest review, im glad I know now rather than be disappointed.

My twins were about 4 and a half when we bought them kiddizopm cameras for Christmas. We met friends for a Christmas morning walk and friend asked why did you get them a kids toy instead of a real camera. At that moment DS dropped the camera on the pavement and he went to pick it he kicked it into the curb. It was grabbed by the friend's bulldog given a couple of shakes and before it was told to drop. It did drop it, the camera bounced. My DS picked it up wiped the dog slobber down his jacket and carried on taking photos of everything. It is durable but as others have stated, the quality is not great. I think it despends on how (for want of a better word)clumsy tour child is.

Dd (8) had a kiddizoom (the one where the lens flips around and you can take selfies) the picture quality was rubbish. Dd loved playing the games and adding borders, but its not something she misses.
She now has a dslr (my old one) and she loves that she can take a good picture 😁 and for selfies she uses her phone (its full of pictures of her face)

You could buy her an older model second hand dslr for a really reasonable price (or would that be too big?). If you do decide to go for used I can recommend wex photographic. The second hand stuff I've had from them has been excellent quality.

Our dc have various models of the Nikon Coopix S33. Slightly more than the Kidzoom (which was the first camera we bought for any of them) but vastly better in every way. Possibly not as shockproof, but the dcs' cameras have been dropped from child-height onto tarmac, and not broken.

They have all the capabilities you would expect in a decent, entry-level, waterproof camera, plus fun stuff like frames, mirror image, recolouring - Ds loves putting makeup on people!

Blimey I wouldn't be giving mine a DSLR until she's into double figures ( very fiddly changing lenses). My DD5 is getting a new camera at Christmas. She has a Kiddizoom twist plus which is very chunky and not great quality although she likes all the effects on it. My husband has the Panasonic LUMIX which is waterproof and robust compact which is really fun on holiday etc but obviously won't have all the borders etc... sorry if this is an expensive option I can't remember the cost.

Oh! Just seen the entry above.... that looks good. Maybe see if you can get some " body armour " for it if it needs it?

Kidizoom. My heavy-handed 6 yo Got One Last Year. Theyre Near Enough Bullet-proof, Take Better Pictures Than My Own, And Have Games On. Worth The Money

NotAPuffin · 17/09/2017 09:52

My 7 and 5 year olds have had Kiddizooms for 3 years now and love them. They bring them everywhere and have never been disappointed in the picture quality (I'm not sure they've even noticed it!). They survive all manner of not-very-careful treatment with no ill effects.
