DH has finally convinced me to get a fake tree this year (we are still finding pine needles from last year, possibly form the year before) - I want a nice bushy one though that I can hand our bauble collection on - any recommendations?

I got a really good one from Homebase last year, they do loads of different styles and sizes, so bound to be one you like.

Brittbugs80 · 09/09/2017 09:19

We got one last year for £100 from Homebase too. It's 7ft and pre lit with the option for white or colour lights. I prefer the colour lights as they look like our family tree in the 80's, DH prefers the white so we switch depending on our mood.

Good bushy branches and we can fit all our decorations on but we are getting a second tree for the Kitchen to hang our special decorations on.

aliciagardner · 09/09/2017 09:58

We have this one tree
It's cheaper on amazon. I swore I'd never have a fake tree, but this convinced me. One thing that really swung it for me was scentsicles (little sticks that smell of Christmas trees, you hide them in you fake tree and like magic, it smells real! They're ace. Also on eBay - I like the green ones best).

Mallowmarshmallow · 09/09/2017 10:33

Last year there was one in Tesco last year that was really raved about on here. We got it and it's quite lovely, I'll see if I can find a link.

Mallowmarshmallow · 09/09/2017 10:34

It's this one, it says it's no longer for sale but I wonder if it might be again nearer Christmas.

Toni85 · 09/09/2017 11:59

The Tesco tree is lovely. We bought it last year. I think it has been discontinued but you can get it on eBay for just under £50 I bought another for my parents last week.

Floralnomad · 09/09/2017 12:03

Balsam Hill , the trees are brilliant , quiet expensive but worth it .

singadream · 09/09/2017 13:09

Wow in never knew they were that expensive. Where do you store them? Do they fold down? We have a (damp) cellar.

Get one of the ones with moulded needles - lots of different brands do it, usually called real needle or real feel, stuff like that. The higher percentage of those you have the better the tree looks. Ours looks great, you can't tell its fake at all until you look right up close - can't remember where we got it from I'm afraid (one of the online tree places) but it was around £100ish (5ft). I give it a spritz every now and then with a christmas tree scent.

LordPercy · 09/09/2017 19:46

Following as after 3 years of pounding headaches from the tree coming in the house to getting thrown out, we're going for a fake tree this year. I think it's going to ruin Christmas but I can't feel that ill over the festive season again

Crabbo · 09/09/2017 19:46

And yes they fold down - ours has a 2 part main stem and then colour coded branches/sections that you slot in. We store it in a tree bag in the loft. I bought a nice resin pot base for it to stand in that hides the bottom as I think the base is the real giveaway of a fake, so the branches start right at the top of the pot.

Brittbugs80 · 09/09/2017 19:50

Ours splits into 3 parts and the branches fold in. It fits back into its box and we keep ours in the loft.

Seems expensive but then you don't need to buy one every year. The one we got last year was to replace one that we had been using and that belonged to the In-laws who bought it in the 80's.

Unicorn81 · 09/09/2017 20:27

Asda used to do a good selection, although i got mine from there 15yrs ago and only £20! Not sure about prices now but even if a bit more expensive mine is stil going strong after all this time

Cailleach666 · 10/09/2017 07:14

Don't.

A fake tree is some plastic on a stick.

Choose a non drop variety of real tree, I buy a Nordman Fir.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/09/2017 08:38

Some people want a fake tree. And there are some amazingly realistic ones on the market if you spend enough money.

It's entirely up to the individual whether they get 'some plastic on a stick' (sounds snobby to me) or a real tree. I've gone back to fake this year; I got a good deal in the summer sales!

WhatWouldDarylDixonDo · 10/09/2017 10:11

I bought a Balsam Hill one last year. I went for one that was the previous years model so it was heavily reduced. I loved it. It's Pre-lit and is very bushy. I'm hoping that it will last is for many many years.

aliciagardner · 10/09/2017 11:41

Mallow, thanks for that. I have just looked on eBay and bought the Tesco one. We have a new extension and I wanted another tree for in there. My DH thinks I am a nutter but I don't care!

singadream · 10/09/2017 11:44

GinYummy · 10/09/2017 12:23

I bought a balsam hill one in the July sale. Of course I had to put it up to make sure it was ok .... Blush
It is gorgeous, completely worth the money. It did take me a little longer to fluff the branches and real feel needless up, but it looked great. I can't wait to decorate it now!

NoWordForFluffy · 10/09/2017 12:39

I remember you getting yours, Gin 🎄

I tested ours in July too (would've hated to open it in November December and the lights not work or something equally disastrous!

Quirkydamsel · 10/09/2017 12:42

Bought ours from John Lewis and it is lovely we were very pleased with it

Floralnomad · 10/09/2017 13:47

Which one did you get gin , we also got ours earlier this year in the sale and it is beyond gorgeous , it's a pre lit 7' Fraser fir .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/09/2017 18:36

Watching........ I threw out my (basically shit) fake tree last year and I'm waiting baited breath~like for the new trees.

Not a huge one though maybe 5'6".
Must be pre-lit but with the lights properly hidden not just randomly wrapped (like the last one was )

Either QVC or Costco (QVC deliver , I have a Costco card that gives a % back) or if they don't have what I need , I'll look in Homebase.

(I'd love a Balsam Hill but DH would have a cow grumble a tad)

singadream · 11/09/2017 00:24

Whoa, the one I want on Basalm Hill is £300!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Floralnomad · 11/09/2017 00:28

That's what I paid in the 40% off sale , when you work it out over how many years you will use it sounds a lot better .
