Hatchimals and Pottery wheels - opinions?? Suitable for a 6yo?

Hi fellow festive mums,

My DD has long been asking for a Hatchimal for Christmas (since last Christmas infact), along with a 'potters wheel' (Pottery Cool Studio?). She is currently 5, turning 6 in January.

Hatchimals are currently £55 in Asda so I was thinking of buying one now- are they really worth it as they just look like cheap tat to me? (As long as she'll love it, I don't mind)

Also, have any of you bought the Pottery Cool wheel? What are your thoughts?

Many thanks x

Had a pottery wheel, dd used it once to make a pot then was never used again. Very messy and a pain to clean up.

Hmmmm that's what I suspected. I also feel she'll open the Hatchimal and as soon as it's hatched, will then lose interest.
Thank you x

I think a lot of hatchimals were a one day wonder. Ours lasted about two weeks but dd is very maternal and the ds's loved teaching it to say rude things. It still comes out every 4-5 weeks and drives me nuts for a couple of days

Thanks @Annwithnoe. DD is very caring and nurturing too so I'm hoping she'll play with it more frequently if we do decide to buy her one x

Hatchimal didn't even make it to a 1 day wonder here. More like 2 hour wonder! Really wouldn't recommend them! Ours doesn't seem to do much except get scared or feel ill lol

Hatchimals didn't last long here either!

I was thinking about getting the pottery cool too☹ is it definitely not worth the money as being in ireland it is nearly €50!!!

Pottery wheel was useless for my 7 year old, arty DD. It didn't work well so was only used once. She has some packs of air dry clay and fimo which are used more.

Hatchimal was a two hour wonder for our DD last christmas, she was 6.

I'm sure I read somewhere (maybe on this board) that the Hatchimal colleggtables (?) were a better buy than the big Hatchimal.

DD2 has been asking for one but I'm resisting following the negative reviews I have read about it!

Newtothis2017 · 01/09/2017 15:27

Thanks parrot I will cross it off the list

Theoistfit · 01/09/2017 18:31

Hatchimal has been played with every now and then. Not worth the money though.

My dd has been asking for a hatchimal since last Christmas too. She got to play with a friend's one recently and now she wants it even more! She really loves playing with her dolls and teddies, so I think she will play with it a lot and definitely need to get it for her this year.
We have had the colleggtibles... they're ok, but haven't filled the gap.

Agree with mess of pottery wheels which are a bit crap as well. I'd get her a session at a real pottery studio instead as they often do children's activities

Dd was desperate for a hatichimal and got one for bday. She loves watching it hatch but it it now sat next to the fiver cuddly toys! Complete waste of money really but that's what Christmas and birthdays are for isn't it- Something you want rather than need! I don't regret buying it, if she's asked that long I'd get it her!
