SO excited to learn there is a Christmaa board as I bloody love it! Definitely my fave time of year by far.

My DS will be 5 months in December and I am wondering if there is anything special and festive I can do with him? Anything you did with your little ones at that age?

We had such a poor Christmas last year, we were in NY where I had 2 big bleeds and they, thankfully mistakenly told me I was having a miscarriage. Suffice to say worst Christmas ever and has made me all the more determined to make this one special.

All tips appreciated, I'm in London if that helps.

Thanks!

At that age baby will love seeing the lights. If in London you can go to the winter wonderland and see the lights soak up the atmosphere etc. Maybe go to the zoo or somewhere like hamleys to meet Father Christmas.

lovewatchingrainfall · 27/08/2017 07:00

It's also a good age to start a tradition so maybe a Christmas Eve box. Or something. So we always went to the zoo Christmas Eve and then came home to a new pair of pjs and a film.
You could maybe buy a new decoration each year so when baby is older you can hand them down.

Thanks Love! I definitely want to do meeting Father Christmas, even though my DS will have no idea whats going on!

Will places like Lapland UK be wasted on a baby?

Will defo take him into London to see the lights, was thinking of the Kew Gardens thing as well. I wanted to go last year but had hyperemesis so was pretty housebound.

I'm so excited to do a Christmas eve box, my pinterest board is full of ideas!

I like the idea of starting a tradition now, will have a think!

At that age don't waste your money, mine was 9 months for Christmas last year and it all went totally above his head.

Just do whatever festive things you normally do and bring him along.

Believeitornot · 27/08/2017 07:04

Well I would spend it with family to be honest. He's a baby and it will go over his head Grin

With our first we had a Christmas just the three of us. Ds was 3 months old and it was a bit lonely at times! We've had much nicer Christmases when we've stayed at home with the dcs since they've got older and understand what's happening. So much so I don't like spending it with anyone else Grin

thesleepystorm · 27/08/2017 07:04

Also just FYI most babies that age are scared shitless by meeting Father Christmas

Hollyhop17 · 27/08/2017 07:06

Thanks Sleepy, that's what I was a bit worried about. At this age it might just have to be meeting Father Christmas for a picture.

I guess its more for me at this stage Grin

Even for a picture they usually scream the place down!!!

I used to work in a grotto Smile

My son was 4 months at xmas, and was still tiny (he was a premie) and we dressed him in a different Christmas costume every day! The mini Santa suit was the cutest thing ever. And the reindeer... and the pudding... it was great fun!

My son will be 3 this year and probably the first time he will really understand what is happening.

At 5 months focus on what makes you remember your first baby christmas!

Hollyhop17 · 27/08/2017 07:15

We will definitely be spending it with family Believeit. We grew up in the same town, so will be able to see both sets of parents.

Being alone in NY last year, particularly with what was happening was so grim and very lonely. I like being surrounded at Christmas!

I sort of knew there wouldnt be much as he's so little, but thought I would check anyway Smile

Ooh love the idea of dressing him up (DH wont!!) Thanks kmmr! I can also start looking for outfits now.

I saw an idea on pinterest, a foot print pf your babies feet with 'mistletoes' on it as a Christmas card, also going to do that!

Mothercare did some nice ones, although I think I liked them as they did their full range in tiny sizes, no idea if they still do. He was still in small baby size and mostly they are boring!
I should make a Christmas calendar of his outfits!

Ask on Facebook selling groups too. Most people will be all too happy to get rid of them as there don't get a lot of use and the chances of future babies being the same size at Christmas is small.

Hollyhop17 · 27/08/2017 07:34

A calender sounds a great idea! Ideal gift for grandparents who will probably love it!

I'm off to google festive outfits now. Wonder if I can find any matching ones...

lovewatchingrainfall · 27/08/2017 08:59

You can 100% get matching outfits. Kew Gardens is lovely.

The first few years of pictures with Father Christmas is with my daughter asleep. But for me I still have those photos to look back on.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/08/2017 09:06

Both of ours hated Father Christmas at that age, it has to be said! I think everyone who's ever taken a baby to see Santa will have a photo of a wailing child desperately trying to avoid the bloke with the beard! 🎅😂

We didn't do anything special at that age (DD was 6 months and DS 5 months for their first Christmases), it has to be said. We were controlled by naps and feeds particularly!

HarrisHawk · 27/08/2017 09:20

My eldest absolutely loved lying on the floor by our Christmas tree just staring at the lights, and that's now something we do each year :)

Hollyhop17 · 27/08/2017 09:37

Yes definitely getting a picture, will be something for him to laugh at when he's older no doubt!

Haven't seen many baby Christmas outfits online, possibly a bit early!

At DDs first Christmas I got her a beautifully illustrated copy of The Night Before Christmas and wrote a little letter to her inside the cover.

It still gives me a lump in my throat now when I read it to her on Christmas Eve. Blush

MuddlingThroughLife · 27/08/2017 10:24

At 5 months I would just enjoy dressing him in cheesy Santa outfits and taking him to see all the lights and decorations x

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 27/08/2017 15:32

When my son was 4 months, we went to a pottery painting place and painted my son's handprint on a bauble. We have since done it every year of his life and we enjoy looking at hem on the tree each year
(We also made a plate of the mistletoes thing and we pilitboir Christmas cake on it)
We did the same for my second child (his plate was his feet made into reindeer) Pinterest have lots of good Christmas art with footprints but would definitely recommend the baubles

NeitherNowtNorSummat01 · 27/08/2017 15:33

Put our not pilitboir!

HerculesMulligan · 27/08/2017 15:41

My DS was born in May and in the run up to Christmas, I used to put him in an outward facing sling and walk slowly through the aisles of Christmas decorations at the fancy garden centre near us. He was absolutely enraptured by the colour and lights - it was a joy for both of us.

One of his favourite early toys was a foot-high inflatable Father Christmas that came from Poundland. He used to cuddle / bop / wrestle it very happily.

My DM made him a big Christmas sack from red cotton (it holds about the same as a black bin bag) and she embroiders something new on it every year to reflect his current favourite thing.
